No problem stuff like that happens.
Anyways, I'm genuinely excited for this one now like it's an HBO bout. I think Joel Julio is going to have a coming out party of sorts. I've posted a few times about it, once in the prospect thread and another time in a topic with you Gamo, Julio wasn't just beat by Quintana but he was pretty much exposed.
That's a term that gets floated around a lot and most of the times unjustly, but Quintana outlined all the flaws of Julio that night. The lack of a jab. The lack of an outside game . The lack of follow up opportunities after the right hand, the bad positioning after his punches ect. but it all starts with the jab.
And when he took on Emmanuel Lucero, who isn't a great fighter but he did have fast hands and decent balance, the jab looked amazing. The type of jab that could give anyone problems.
When he had a jab in the past, it was either too stiff, he threw it flatfooted or it came one at a time. What it led to versus Quintana was Julio being stuck on the outside when faced with a double and triple jab. He couldn't get around it, and when he did get in, it was with the right hand coming forward from the outside which just left him open and disallowed anything to come after it.
When he went out against Lucero, the jab was such a fluid thing. It gave him that means to get inside, he threw it plenty and it allowed him to keep his balance when he threw that powerful right hand of his and let him keep his feet set on the inside which is where he knocked Lucero down. With an uppercut, after the right hand.
It just set everything up. You saw Julio, and you saw a guy who had a lot but didn't have anything to put it together. Well, the jab was the missing cog and it just makes his game so much better in virtually every area.
I hate to sound like a broken record here but that jab wasn't there in late March against Thomas Davis. But it was there in early May against Lucero. He had a month in the gym and it turned out a good thing. You have to think in the 2 months since that he has really finetuned and is ready. And hey, I can not wait. I am really excited for this one.
