    Default speed bag work

i'm a grappler who recently got into mma. i've been getting pretty good on the speed bag but i think there might be something i'm missing. besides rhythm and eye hand coordination what else am i supposed to work on or be thinking about while i'm doing it; like posture or anything? if you guys could give me some feedback that'd be great. thanks

Yea just like hitting some one or the heavy bag work on posture, technique, and every thing that would involve punching.

Cus D'Amato once hit the speed bag for a full round blindfolded; so much for the hand-eye coordination. I've never understood the purpose behind the speed bag as it encourages poor technique and offers ....little if anything. Try a double end bag instead

It helps with rythm and stamina in punching.

well jumping rope and running along with a lot of other things keeps the heart rate up, so if speed the bag really isn't that helpful why is it so popular, and is there anything a speedbag can give me that i can't get from other workouts like heavy bag, double end, and focus mits?

It's popular because it's traditional and involves hand-eye coordination, balance and timing. It's simply something else to do when you're not doing the other things.
