And you're basing Floyds greatness on what? Washed up fighters? Let me see him fight a great fighter still in their prime and if he's still undefeted or even performs well, he'll have my respect. Otherwise, who can really say that he's that much better than Cotto.Originally Posted by Daim

Shane couldn't figure out a bigger fighter that used a simple jab all fight long. I say this cause Mayweather seems pick the right opponents so he could look good. He never wants to take a chance. Not one fighter he has fought has had all the right tools to defeat him or at least all the right tools in one fighter. Oscar was the best but his power didn't seem to be doing much to floyd. I hnestly don't think oscar wanted to win that fight either.
To me, Cotto has those tools to pull off an upset. Because I truly believe it would be an upset. Mayweather is looked as a god in the boxing world. Here is why I think Cotto could pull off the upset.
1) Cotto would attack Mayweather the same way that Oscar did, but I don't think Oscar's power is even close to Cotto's at 147.We saw what Mayweather did when Oscar attacked him......he moved ,fought backwards and was always looking for the counter.
2) People continue to underestimate Cotto's speed and Accuracy. Oscar has those same things but he likes to throw them in flurrys and in bunches. He really didn't concentrate on trying to land a good punch or try breaking down his opponent. He was just trying to win a round and was probably focused on the final scorecards.
3) Oscar used his jab early in the fight and we all saw that it looked effective on PBF. Cotto used his jab on Judah and that to me looked like was key to keeping Judah from thowing alot of punches. I think it was a great strategic plan on Cotto's team and I think that they prepared him well for that fight. I think Cotto would use his jab alot to stop Mayweather from moving as much so he could move in and get work done.
4) I don't think Mayweather has ever fought someone with the mindset of Cotto. Someone who not only comes to win...he comes to destroy everyone and everything in the ring.
Cotto would need to be cautious with PBF's great counter-punching. If PBF's power doesn't seem to be hurting Cotto........I believe it would be a long night for PBF and Cotto would win this by decision. I truly think that Cotto's style will give PBF trouble. everyone has that 1 fighter or one style they can't figure out.
Of course, I can't say KO because we all know, Mayweather will make a great match-up a boring one to watch while Cotto could make a boring match-up..... a great fight to watch!!
Guys I'm Puertorican too but I ain't biased like the rest of PR, PBF is another on dimension than Cotto. Cotto makes too many mistakes defensively, he will be open for counters all night long. Floyd will make him look bad if he doesn't stop him, because those crisp and hard counters that Floyd will land against Cotto all night long can eventually turn his legs into spaghetti again. Cotto is too open, too robotic and slow for the best technical boxer in the world right now. Power is a big factor against this kind of fighter(Floyd), but when you put it against the skills of PBF is a technical mismatch for Cotto.Originally Posted by Violent Demise
1, Nothing wrong with a distance win for MayweatherOriginally Posted by Rican
What people don't seem to understand is that Cotto has just as good a chance as anyone who has supposedly had a chance in the past. Factors:
1. Mayweather has little power to KO Cotto. Thus, this fight is going th distance if Floyd wins.
2. Mayweather is not a motion guy. What I mean is that he doesn't float like a butterfly. He simply makes you miss to the head. Baldomir, Oscar, etc. have tried to hit Floyd in the head, but were unable to do so effectively. Judah was the only one to do it with success (he knocked down Floyd, but it wasn't called). Main point? Mayweather's body is easy to hit. That's Cotto's strength right there. Cotto should focus on that and hit Floyd in the body, arms, shoulders, everywhere but the head. This will wear down Floyd, who has a nice physique but seems so brittle/little that I don't think he can sustain a pounding of the likes that Cotto gives.
3. Because of Cotto's ability to cut the ring off (as opposed to following Floyd around like de la Hoya did), Cotto has a great shot.
4. People keep talking about Floyd's speed, and he does have speed. But Cotto fought an arguably faster Judah, and a more powerful one, and it did not seem to affect Cotto at all. Remember, Cotto is willing to take a punch to throw one, and little Floyd's feather fists will not stop Cotto from coming.
5. Floyd will NOT be able to keep Cotto off him. Cotto is too strong.
6. As de la Hoya showed, if you have a good jab you can have success against Floyd. Cotto's jab is awesome and strong!! Cotto also seemed prepared for Judah, meaning they watched tapes and knew how what to do to beat him.
7. Cotto can deal with fast punchers. He has fought Corley (who did catch Cotto in the temple and made him shake), Sosa, Paulie, and Judah and they were all unable to stay away from Cotto. Arguably, Mayweather is on another level, but how much faster is he than them that will stop Cotto?
8. Whether Cotto has no chance at all or not he might as well get a shot. What's the worse he could do? Lose like everyone else before him, that's all. But the possibilities are exciting!!
9. Floyd will only make the fight if he gets the money. Arum, give him the money. Invest in Cotto because if Cotto beats him, then Cotto will be in the driver's seat and Mayweather will have been knocked off.
2, Gatti said the exact same thing. Didn't exactly work for him
3, What's the point of cutting off the ring if you can't connect?
4, Judah has no idea how to use his speed. Mayweather does
5, It still won't matter
6, Cotto ain't Oscar. And Mayweather is definitely not Judah.
7, Cotto has big problems with fighters with faster hands. See Corley and Torres fights
8, Yes he should get a shot
9, Yes, Arum pay them both
PBF Lopsided UD or PBF TKO 9 rnd. Guys accept it Cotto is nowhere Floyd's league and he will never be.
I think Cotto and Mosley have the best chance of beating Floyd. Mosley is no longer in his prime but he is a very smart and very skilled fighter with enough speed to make it happen.
Cotto may not have the speed but he knows how to sneak his punches in there with his great timing, he's cuts off the ring extremely well and he can switch to southpaw effectively which has been his secret weapon lately. Floyd just won't have the power to keep Cotto off IMO so it would take a masterful boxing performance for him to win.
Anything can happen in that fight and it can go either way and thats why Floyd wants Hatton and not Cotto.
