Hatton : Mayweather must make light-welter to fight me

Ricky Hatton's father, Ray, said yesterday that Floyd Mayweather would have to come down to light-welterweight if he wanted to figure in a contest between the two undefeated fighters in November.

Mayweather's last contest was at light-middleweight, one stone heavier than Hatton's division, and the American has since indicated that he will now fight as a welterweight, at 10st 7lb. Ray Hatton's statement seems to rule out the possibility of a Hatton-Mayweather fight this year, with New York's Paulie Malignaggi, the WBA light-welterweight champion, still most likely to get the Hatton engagement.

The Hatton camp know Mayweather is never going to come down to 140. They're ducking him. Maybe they're ducking because they think they can make more money with alternative fights, that's the most charitable way of looking at this. I wonder what PBF will have to say about it.

I agree I do not believe that Hatton is ducking Floyd but I do believe that he is trying too make this to his best advantage....Ricky could not duck Floyd now if he wanted to....If he refused the fight now his credibility would be shot as a fighter and he would never be taken serious again...Untill Hatton actually refuses to fight I or anyone else can not say Hatton is ducking him...Though it is a shady move to try and force the fight to 140....

How short memories people have...I'm sure I recall Hatton turning down Floyd for a.) not meeting Hatton's $13million demand and b.) Hatton was not ready.He asked for a few more fights.

Yep. If Hatton won't fight above 140, then he's basically ending any chance of this fight happening. Mayweather's not coming below 147, and he shouldn't have to.
As for what Mayweather will say about it, he'll say Hatton's ducking him, and he'll be right.

I'd like to see a Hatton-Malignaggi fight. It will be interesting to see what Floyd decides to do.

I agree with you( rare Occasion ) PBF would not fight below 140 and HAtton has to come up. IF PBF or Hatton want a piece of the current WW big names the have to make 147 no catch weight crap

Truth is Memphis most of it is just hear say and a business ploy...From what I understand the contract is signed already...IMO I doubt Hatton would not fight if it wasn't at 140...Or I would hope he would not cancell the fight for that reason anyway...I think more of him then that....

I just hate when people start with the well it should be how so and so wants it or not at all then try to justify any type of unreasonable demand on it

Personally even though I'm a patriotic Brit I'd love to see Floyd drop down two divisions and come to England and knock Hatton spark out in Wembley Stadium.

If Hatton won't move up one division to fight a guy whose a natural lightweight in the biggest possible fight against the world's premier fighter then personally I have no interest in what he does from here on.

Let him go after the Malignaggi's and Vivian Harris' of the world whilst the real players like Floyd and Cotto get on with fighting each other.

Mayweather can still perform optimally at 140lbs and without doubt it is Hatton's best weight. I'm not sure what everybody's problem is as it is the weight which would deliver the best spectacle for the fans and I thought that's what we all are here, fans of boxing.

So what's wrong with Hatton wanting to give himself the best shot at winning possible? IMO he should do everything he can to fight at 140lbs and only if he absolutely has to, move up to 147 for Mayweather.

On the other hand, 140 is now a stretch for Mayweather. And if you can't fault Hatton for "giving himself the best shot at winning", neither can you fault Floyd if he insists it's either at 147 or nothing. And it's Mayweather who's considered the world's p4p, not Hatton... it seems to me it's Mayweather who sits in the better bargaining position right now. I say if Hatton really wants Mayweather, let him go up to 147, where the action is.

Honestly...I couldn't give a shat what Hatton says or wants...Floyd is the P4P #1 fighter on the planet...Fatton aint in the position to dictate the what, the where, or how & it seems unfeasable to me that Floyd can get down that quickly...safely...for this type of fight.

Where he said what he wants Floyd??,,,,,He stated it in the after fight interview when he fought Castillo....

In all fairness though everyone is jumping the gun when Hatton himself has never been quoted (as far as I know currently) stating the fight has to be at 140 or he wants it at 140....
