i was also gutted watching this fight. He was a shadow of his former self. Woould also like tosay that the ref was shocking and should have stepped in well before the final punch was thrown.

It was horrible to see Gatti in such a state, he is such a legend who has giving me so much excitement with his never say die attitude in fights especially the Ward trilogy. Im so glad he has at last decided to call it a day and retire. Thank you Gatti for being such a warrior & giving me so much excitement you will be missed!!
Nothings Sweeter Than Sugar
It felt like the objective in there was to get Gatti hurt. They chose a big strong hungry young bloke who can fight and has been mixing it with light middleweights and middleweights. Not only that he doesnt exactly hit like a freight train so Gatti was always going to take a lot of punches.
Hard to watch, even harder to figure out.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Yeah, but you would not want to have Naz, Chris Eubank or Amir Khan in it ....... imagine the crashes?Originally Posted by Hulk

Very difficult to watch him get beaten like that. I loved watching him fight, but he needs to retire.
Gomez was sharp and Gatti didn't have the power or boxing ability to keep Gomez off...The only time Gatti looked effective was when he got inside and pushed Gomez back which he only did for one round maybe...Gatti went into this fight with no game plan, couldn't adapt, got schooled and now his career is over which is good because he's been a shell of himself for a little while now...He always handled himself with class and style, he was great for the game and brought many new fans to boxing... I wish Arturro all the best in whatever his future holds...
Having just seen the fight now, Gatti has no real option other than to retire. It was sad and frustrating to see, but its a sight we see all too often with a warrior at the end of a career.
I only hope he doesnt have any more ideas about trying to go out on any high. Sadly, he has nothing left.
I thought Gatti should have gone after Mayweather took him apart a few years ago. It is a great shame that he has kept going on and we have to view fights like the on on sat - thanks for the memories Arturo!
The Ref was a PRICK
Anything gatti has done past 140 has been horrible.....sad cause i really liked this guy.

Gatti should have retired after the Baldomir fight like he said he was going to.
His trilogy vs. Ward will always be remembered as classic and should be
mandatory for any new boxing fan. Those days are long behing him though.
Gatti thank you for the fights, but please do retire.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
...and make sure james toney is right behind you.Originally Posted by killersheep

James Toney has been one of my favourite fighters for many a year now. I accept that its time to let go of him too. Boxing is a strange sport. It isnt like tennis or golf, you support a fighter and get really into them and the intensity of those moments in the ring can be matched by no other sport. The wars, the blood, the drama and the ups and downs. And then its time to realise the fighter is perhaps not at the same level anymore and yet its still so hard to accept it.Originally Posted by Mar

This beating is actually a silver lining for gatti. Seeing him go out so violently further cements his legacy as a blood and guts warrior. Never say die right to the end.
He took too much punishment. If it were any other fighter it would have been stopped sooner. It wasnt a war, it was a slaughter but I guess even the ref failed to see that he wasnt going to make a comeback in that fight. I just hope he is ok in the future, but I think he will be.
