Who was better? Ali or Lewis?

Were talking prime for prime here. Part of what makes ali great is he was in exile for four prime years of his carrer and was still great. Yes Joe frazier won and had that fight taken place 4 years prior hed of beaten frazier easily, Joe frazier basically took a stroke after the fight and WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER ALI FRAZIER 1. Ken Norton yes I agree was a b fighter but ali indeed was on the downside when they fought, he also never trained or took norton as serously as he should of and he also never got koed by second rate competion, rahman oliver mcall. He beat george foreman past his best.

No shat, Lewis is a intelligent boxer. He would never for for the Rope a Dope. To be honest, If that fight happened today(Foreman) It would be stopped with Ali getting hammered in the corner by big George. Ali was a great fighter but not the greatest.

yeah i recon if the Ali - Foreman fight happened in the USA and in a ring without the lose ropes Foreman would have won, i think it was a shame he never took the rematch, Lewis would have given Ali all sorts of trouble, Norton arguably beat Ali 3 times, if he'd got the decisions not many would have argued because the fights were that close! Fraizer gave him hell the 3 times they fought! so why does everyone seem to think Ali was untouchable and it would have been impossable 4 Lewis to beat him!

Because Foreman and Frazier would of beaten Lewis too IMO.

Lewis never had the personality or media backing to be considered better than Ali . The greatest has a place in peoples hearts as the number 1 and this is down to theAmerican writers which wont stand for anything else .

However if we take a step back and rank them not on a romantic historical point but what they achieved then you could make a very strong case for being the greatest ever . Of course that would seem absurd to the subconcioulsy bias fan who belives whatever media they receive which is naturally all pro Ali . But Lewis was an amazing athlete at his best and when he was motivated he was unbeatable . The man beat every guy he ever fought. The same cant be said for Ali

Ali vs Lewis

Young Ali had the footwork to get past that giant and accurate jab. Ali would could fight at a pace that Lennox had never seen in his entire life. Ali was consistent, from 1 to 15. A big man like Lennox wouldn't have the energy of Ali's, who had a legendary energy tank. Ali also had the gift of landing punches on fighters that normally don't land with any other fighter, or going for a risky punch/combination but getting away with it. Ali had more balls than Lewis ever had his entire career.

But it'd be difficult getting past Lennox's jab. A jab which lead to his right cross. This is something a young Ali, with legs, could get away with.

But a 30's Ali (The early half of thirty), would make the fight much closer. Lewis won't knockout Ali, so I say Ali's speed keeps him just a notch up on scores, by the end of the fight.

Anyways, this is what I think. Anybody else?
