Default Alfonso Gomez vs. Ricky Hatton

Putting this out there. I know I'm going to have people calling me insane, but I think this is a match up that could get made. HBO seems to go for the Contender fighters, and the last version of it paid off. Gomez looks like a guy who made big improvements. He can take a shot, and he's a smaller WW who has genreally moved up to fight competition. Hatton, while obviously at an elite PFP level, did have a hard time when he moved up to fight Collazo. So, in the minds of HBO and Hatton, the fight's a no-brianer that can make big $$. And for Gomez, a shot at a nice pay-day and possibly he's the Mexican version of Rocky Balboa if he wins.

Gomez has nothing to offer Hatton in terms of a challenge IMO
    and I don't like Hatton

You may be right, but I have to say the version of Gomez that we saw against Gatti was not that far under Callazo. IMHO. and we saw how that went.

Gatti barely has a pulse in the ring anymore. I'm glad Gomez is getting more exposure, but I don't give too much merit to that win.

Agreed Gatti was shot, but I can separate that, and give Gomez merit. He came in much more fit than before, threw good body shots, good combos, was very accurate, and has always been able to take a shot. Far from elite, but still, major improvements to his game were evident. He still has slow hands and poor footwork.

I'm with Greg "The Killer" Sheep....Hatton would muller Gomez from what I saw over the weekend, Gatti looked really bad in there, more than Gomez looking sensational for my money. And although Gomez is a contender star....we saw what happened the last time a Brit fighter fought someone from the reality TV show.

This would not even be competitive....The fight woulkd benifit Hatton none...Actually if he made such a fight it would hurt him not help him....He would be blasted by the media and fans...You thought Calzaghe had some horrible feedback for the Manfredo fight

I happen to be one that thought that while Manfredo would have ended up losing, that fight was stopped ENTIRELY prematurely. Gomez is a tougher nut than Manrefo anyway.

I give Gomez more of a chance than Junior Witter...There again I give Pongsaklek more of a chance than Witter.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't tar everyone with the same reality-tv brush, but I still reckon Gomez needs a few more profile wins before he even gets on to Hatton's radar. The British public will hardly accept a fight against Gomez after all the recent talk about Mayweather.

I feel the same about a Malignaggi fight to be honest. He's hardly big league is he?

I'm a big Hatton fan and like Gomez also, for what he is, but I wouldn't pay to see that fight. Gomez did his job the other night and good for him, but Gatti is like the walking dead. He better be glad it wasn't Ricky in there, or Gatti would have gotten holes blown through him. I love Gatti and am glad he retired, but putting Gomez into big fights because he whooped up on Gatti is stretching things a little. I'd rather see Gatti fight again. They should get him and his buddy together 1 last time for Gatti/Ward 4. What a snooze fest that would be. I'd still pay for that before paying to see Gomez, at least at this particular time.

The difference is in all of Malignaggi's wins he has been completely dominant.

Gomez is limited but would have some serious physical advantges...but considering he was calling out the novice Chavez jr after bashing up ancient old shot-to-shit Gatti, just about says it all.
