    Default Boxing Fans and EXCUSES!!!!

Lately i have been really annoyed at the fact that hardly any fans can be humble when one of their favourite fighters is defeated. The excuses are so diverse, some say they are poisoned, others that they werent focussed, they had an injury, the ref was biased, the judges were biased etc....
Has everyone forgot the old saying that once a fighter is thru the ropes there are no excuses. Nobody is forcing the multi millionaire top guys fight, so if they arent right pull out.
I've been guilty of it in the past too. When Hatton beat Kostya i was looking for every excuse under the sun. But now that i look back i know that tszyu knew what he was in for, he knew the crowd would be one sided, the ref would probably favour hatton and so on. If he didnt like these things then he didnt have to take the fight, and im willing to admit Hatton beat him on the night.
Pro fighters at the top level have months to prepare so any Fighter who says they lost cos they werent physically right has no excuse.
If they had an injury they could pull out so that is no excuse.
If unmotivated dont get in the ring.
If a fighter is too green, dont get in with the other guy.

Now i promise that if i back a fighter and they get beat i wont make excuses. I did it when Darchinyan got sparked out, just look at my name. Anyone with me? This does not make u less of a fan, just shows u understand boxing and arent just a fanboy.
Or am i completely on the wrong track?

I can see it from both ends of the stick...it's hard when you put your heart & soul into a fighter...& I can buy into making excuses...but these people that are TOTALLY blind to the facts & do come up with excuses from hell.

Take the Hopkins Wright fight...I honestly believe Wright won that fight...& I honestly believe that he lost because of the ref & because of Hopkins fighting dirty...but oddly enough...I picked Bernard to win...so where does that put me in the way of a category? I wanted a draw...but got some ridiculous scorning & what I consider to be the wrong decision...even though I was picking the 'Nard.

    Mixed up?

I know what u mean. And i agree about the TOTALLY blind fans. I think its them that annoy me. U say u thought Winky won, and thats cool, but atleast u didnt say Winky lost cos he was poisoned, or had a broken fingernail......And u can accept that Nard won.

the problem with this game is,its far a win is far from clear cut... it can be subjective... so when people believe thier boywas unlucky, or robbed, its not always an 'excuse' there have been a lot of fights this year that could of gone either way. telling things that decided the outcome, thats boxing... people complaining about the complainers are even worse...

I think Zab Judah fans are P4P #1 for making excuses for Zabs sorry ass career.

'If the Zab Judah that fought Spinks in the rematch would have fought PBF, Baldomir and Cotto then Zab wouldn't have lost'
    -Zab fans

    WTF?

I don't think it is entirely the fans to blame for the excuses, because the fighters come up with a fair repertoire of their own reasons when they've lost, and I must confess I like to see a fighter just saying: "I turned up with my A-game and he was just the better fighter." But the problem is that the loser usually only says that if it was a mismatch from the start.

When fighters criticise scoring, refs in general and factors outside of the ring, they are giving their fans ammunition to argue their corner on forums like these. And anyway, I hope I don't make too many excuses for fighters I like, and if a guy gets beat, I'll admit that, even if I offset it with other factors.

By there very nature excuses are factors in fights. How much of a factor is where the arguments arise. This is where forum like these we can debate them. (Do I sound like Obi One Kinobee?)
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

I've seen some fantastic comments from Mundine fans lately regarding his loss to Ottke.

I have noticed a few of them too, especially on ESB.

Excuses and explanations are different in my opinion and the difference between the two isn't exactly about words. The words could be identical it's how you present them to the public.

This of course could just be pure bullshit in it'self. You decide.

The thing that made me write this topic is a post on the Naz v Barerra fight. One poster in that discussion brought out every excuse under the sun for naz and it just pissed me off.

Cc to the thread starter (eagle).

Fans sometimes must admit that their warrior got beaten and not make any poor excuses.

In pro-boxing you suppose to be professional and must always show your "A" game.

I'm as guilty as any of them. I made them for El Terrible when losing to Pac. And I'm probably blind to thinking he'll win against Diaz. And if Diaz wins I'm sure I'll have many excuses for Morales.
