I thought I heard that Chuvalo sounded just fine. Which is bizarre considering all the punches he's taken.

Last time I saw Chuvalo he was on ESPN Classic ringside and he sounded just fine to me....

SC. People can like who they want to like. I like Ivan Calderon, Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters, but if you don't like guys that fight like that, it doesn't mean you're not a true boxing fan.

I never said that I think boxing is all about knockouts or that a fight sucks. That's ridiculous. In fact, most of my favorite fighters don't even punch that hard.

Some people like guys who come out looking for the knockout, is that bad? I think why some people don't like Malignaggi is that there's no suspense, every round looks the same. I won't say that's odd, he's had a lot of fights and apparently a lot of sparring but he is a great defensive fighter.

Hopkins sounds perfectly fine to me. I guess I'd have to hear what he sounded like 15 years ago.

I wish they would change boxing back to the days when it was 15 rounds and boxers were so tired they could barley move and would need the will to win it and show how good they really were and go back to the days when they didn't stop fights so fast and see if the other guy could make it back instead of stopping it to soon I think boxing is to soft now compared to the old days.

It's only 3 less rounds and with todays better diets,training and gym equipment fighters are fitter and stronger imo.
2 fighters on last weekends Golden Boy card can no longer fight again as a result of their brutal fights

He is also 70 years old and that can be from anything....Hell I hope at 70 I am as strong and in shape as he is....

The one thing I totally disagree with is that fights are stopped too soon.

There are not many fights I've seen that were stopped too soon. Calzaghe-Manfredo ok, and there are others but in general fights are not stopped too soon. Look at Pernell Whitaker-Hurtado, should that have gone on longer.

As far as 15 round fights, I don't know. Most serious boxing injuries don't come from one punch early, there from long sustained beatings. Look at Leavander Johnson, its not like Jesus Chavez is a huge puncher. It was the punches being constantly landed over the course of a fight that hurt a fighter. Leavander probably shouldn't have even been allowed to fight anyway.

Is there anyway to tell if there have been less injuries, deaths, since they went to 12 round fights? I mean you would assume there would be less but is there actual evidence.

One could argue that todays young boxers on the way up are less gritty than their historical counterparts, but perhaps possesssing more polished skills.
However, on the other hand there are a number of prospects making their names on grit alone:

John Duddy: Never fantastic boxer, even as an amateur but chin, grit and aggression are making him a name.
Enzo Macc: His early Career saw him not only battle on after a loss, but also battle on in some very tough fights with Hobson Dominguez etc.
Jamie Moore:After the Macklin fight you can't question his will to fight or endure punishment in order to win!!!
Rey Bautista: His last couple of fights have pretty much seemed to suggest he's not all he was hyped up to be, but IMO they also showed he's in the business not only to dish it out but take it all for a win.
