I want to ask a general question because I know nothing about football. Be honest regardless of location. Are U.S. pro teams really comparable to minor league teams over in Europe??

....yes the team play is terrible here but it's getting better.

Freddy Adu will be a good player in the Premiership....hell Dempsey is doing well at Fullham and I think Adu is going to be better than Dempsey

Sorry to piss on your parade Lyle but Dempsey was on the bench for most of the season, and to be honest hasnt done anything of note in the premiership.

When he got PT he did well....it takes some adjusting to get used to the type of play the EPL has.

Dempsey and Adu have done more in the EPL than Beckham has in the MLS.....and Adu has never even played in the EPL.....so just give them some freaking time.

Liek Onyewu....Newcastle was smart to get him but they gave him ONE SEASON and that was it....he never got used to the play and how the hell is he suppose to develop when he doesn't get an oppertunity to play and learn what works and what doesn't.

My very strong opinion is that none of the European teams....ESPECIALLY ENGLISH TEAMS want US players to be there much less do well....nothing else can explain the lack of chance our boys get over there....A SEASON? just ONE.....give Rooney ONE season where he's riding the pine the majority of the time and if he was American he'd have been gone no questions asked.

Brian McBride did well, Tim Howard did well....

Bocanegra, Simek, Spector, Convey, Beasley, Demerit.....all those guys play in the UK but I'm 100% sure they aren't the best players that the US has.

All I'm saying is give Adu a chance and he'll perform well....I know Altidore will do good things as well

Plenty of internations have trouble adjusting to the ELP, absolutely, and you are right, Americans get very little slack or second chances. They expect them to fail, want them to fail. That's why I'm glad Beasley is with Rangers and Adu is at Benifica. Every Rangers fan I know (one of my best friends is Glaswegian, and I've spent a week there) remembers and respects Claudia Reyna and they are glad to be getting Demarcus. Adu will get more chance to play than he would at a a TOP EPL team and he'll play in UEFA CUP or Champions League, which he won't do with a mid-tier EPL team. Adu may not turn into Zidane, but he'll be a quality player, probably one notch up from prime Claudio Reyna. If he can avoid getting injured, like Reyna, I'll be happy with the result.

u cant judge anyone who plays well in scotland!

rod wallace at the age of 39 knocked in 50 odd goals for gers and he couldnt even find the net south of the border

personally i think becks has done more for the mls than any american has done for the prem even though he hasnt kicked a ball

Liek Onyewu wasnt up to the job, 1 season is enough to tell you what a player can do, especially a defender as there job is the same on every pitch in the world, he was big but losing 50 50's to smaller guys and being taken out of the play by smart strikers is not good enough in this league

mcbride and howard are doing very well and have stepped up as well as fridel who is quality between the sticks

we will never know how good Altidore is unless he plays here, sure that was a good goal but when you get the likes of essian, mascherano, makele, gerrard, hargreaves, even jimmy bullard running along side you you aint gonna get a shot like that away before the balls gone

but hopefully he will be good, personally though american soccer needs to get rid of the american football markings on the pitch, dreadful!!!

    I'm the real pretty boy

You can judge a player one how well they do in UEFA or Champions coming out of Scotland.

The football markings is bush league, most places don't have that though.

I'm really impressed by Altidore and I usually am pretty down on American strikers. I was surprised at how well McBride's done in England to be honest. I always just thought of him as a grinder, nothing really special. That is kind of his game but he's done well with it. Altidore seems to have all the ability, good size, speed, very powerful shot, seems to be pretty good in the air and he's only 17. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he ends up doing better than Adu. He doesn't have to play in England to prove himself but I'd like him to go somewhere in Europe.

I just wanna see what our young guys end up doing. The guys on our U-21 team I think have much more natural talent than were use too. Not just Adu, Altidore, but other guys too. Sal Zizzo is talented, signed with Hannover after the tournament, and Danny Szetela's going to Roma. I don't think we've ever had a non goalie go to a club as big as Roma.

I think Onweyu is ridiculously overrated and I don't see why he continues to start. He always looks shit to me. Jay Demerit's a clearly better player IMO. Not too high on Bocanegra either.

Onyewu just needs a chance, and I think he serves the team best when he has to go against teams like Czech Republic due to their size and strength....you put a beast like Gooch vs a speedster and he'll draw fouls and look horrible until he figures it out.

Some young guys to keep your eyes on are:

Benny Feilhaber -midfielder, 22 years old, plays for Derby County

Michael Bradley - midfielder, 20 years old, plays for SC Heerenveen

Kenny Cooper Jr - striker, 22 years old, 6'3 tall, plays for Dallas and is the son of former NASL player...you may know him....Kenny Cooper Sr. the goalkeeper from England

Lee Nugyen - midfielder, 20 years old, plays for PSV Eindoven

    and some others
    Preston Zimmerman
    Jonathan Spector
    Johann Smith
    Gabriel Ferrari

The US is set to make big strides in international play if we have the right coach.....Bradley has done well so far when he has his players available....I was disappointed to see the way we handled the Copa America though.

Our young players are getting in over in Germany and The Netherlands and Scotland and those guys are doing well....they just need the chances.
