The point about the knockdown was explained by the commentators...at least the ones on Setanta anyway. The pundit also scored it a 10-9 round to Morales because he thought Diaz had been dominating that round, and it would have been a 10-9 Diaz without the knockdown, so its still a 2-point swing to Morales.Originally Posted by chip

sorry but that's bull, in boxing you if there's only one kd in the round, the one that scores the knockdown wins the round 10-8, could have been losing the round and catches a lucky punch to get the kd but yea he still gets the round 10-8, and imo Diaz was in no way dominating the first round, he caught Morales with a couple clean shots but wasn't dominating, this is by far the worst scored fight of the year

It might well be bull, but if the judges have the discretion to score a 10-8 round even if there isn't a knockdown, then surely they have the discretion to alter the standard 10-8 score, which i agree is normally the score given for a knockdown round.Originally Posted by ElTerribleMorales

A four-point swing, which could ultimately have come because of a lucky punch.
Personally, I prefer giving judges the discretion to the judges to alter the scores, even with a round including a knockdown.

....the circumstances made this way worse, to end a great fighters career like this was very dissappointing.

to certain point Pacquiao doesn't have anything to do with this thread, cause we're talking about the bullshit decision, so yea, but IMO Diaz wasn't dominating the first round, he was winning it but wasn't dominating, also i don't understand how the fuck round 2 could be scored 10-8 for Diaz? That round was closer than the first and i had Diaz win the round but 10-9 not 10-8, c'mon there is no fucking justification for this BULLSHIT SCORING, i mean the decision should be challenged, and if they don't take action then that shows how bad boxing politics really is today
I don't have a problem with a judge scoring a round with a knockdown 10-9 if the other guy was clearly winning the round. Its definitely not illegal, its just not done all that often, in fact it should probably be done more often IMO, especially if the other guy is dominating which Diaz pretty much was, or at least was clearly winning the round hands down, and even more so if its a flash KD, although that wasn't really a flash knockdown. Have no idea how round 2 was 10-8.
I did think Morales should have gotten the decision but it was too close to be called a true robbery IMO, just a bad decision.

Finally, another voice of reason in this debate. To be going crazy over such a close decision that could have gone either way is just going over the top in my opinion.Originally Posted by OumaFan

I've read a little on the round 2 scoring of 10-8 by one judge. If you remember towards the beginning of the round Morales tripped over Diaz's leg. Evidently this judge, who should be banned, thought that was a knockdown and scored it 10-8 for Diaz. Now if this is the case it just goes to ask, was this clown paying attention at all during the fight?
And to all those who thinks it's ok for the first round to be 10-9 instead of 10-8, Diaz was winning, noway dominating the first. You have to give Morales, and any other fighter, credit for knocking a guy down. I could see if Diaz dominated for 2:50 then a flash knockdown. Diaz was winning, but Morales landed a quality shot a put him down. 10-8!!!!

I don't think it was close though. While I had 3 points in it, if you read every opinion is this thread, not one person has said they felt Diaz deserved the win, yet 3 judges believed he did. When I heard the words "unanimous decision", I was so sure Morales had it in the bag. Like Mar said, to end a guy's career on a loss that for most he clearly won is just plain wrong.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun

The reason that for most people that he won, is that Morales has picked up a lot of fans during his career, and justifiably so, so I think that many, many people were edging the fight towards him because of that. His style of fighting is going to let him get into close fights, and against a come forward fighter like Diaz in his hometown is going to leave it tough for the judges. I was pretty lazy over the course of the fight in scoring, and I agree with the judge who scored the first 10-9, but I'd happily call the fight a tie. What I'm saying is that the group of people here, albeit all knowledgable posters, might not be representative of the boxing fans of the world as a whole.Originally Posted by bzkfn

This is page 3 of the thread and there is only 1 post that mentions Pac by ElTerribleMorales. So the masses do not think that Pac has to be included in this thread. ElTerribleMorales just gave you a tidbit reason to include Pac's name. and your PacWhoreness jumped in on the opportunity. Just because Showtime decides to show Pac-Morales clips does not mean we are on the Showtime boxing forum. Sure they showed clips it all in the ratings game.Originally Posted by Pacstraightleft

morales didn't punch diaz when he was on the ground did he? and yea Marquez was dominating the round, not like diaz was "dominating" either, IMO it was his best round until the knockdown, but yea barrera clearly punched him while he was already down and was lucky he didn't get dq'd right there
