Yeah I thought I remembered reading somewhere where Ali admitted to not throwing it over the bridge, instead just falling out of love with it and misplacing it somewhere. But my memory might be playing tricks on me.

Either way, the medal turned into his most prized possession into something that became a symbol of something that wasn't right. And it's well known that black gold medal winners weren't treated well upon arrival back in the states. Even Jesse Owens was denied service at the airport diner the day he came back after stealing the show from Hitler at the Olympics.

But I'm pretty sure that the throwing over the bridge is a myth.
