Taylor will have to step up his game to win this one ,and that might niot be enough. I never saw Jermain fight until B-Hop so other than the 2 B-hop fights I have not been impressed. I have seen Kelly fight twice now and have been very impressed both times.

the few people who never saw taylor fight before b-hop would be correct in thinking pavlik would kill taylor. Pavlik is a pretty impressive fighter given the limited quality of the opponets he faced so far. Even some who have seen taylor since the begging pick pavlik to win and i can see that as well, i just have a feeling that old taylor would be to much for pavlik. But if he comes out as the taylor you've seen and the one we've all had to sit through lately he'll get blown up real quick.

The boxers are saving most of the jabs for the ring.

Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik held a joint news conference Tuesday at the Tavern on the Green restaurant in New York City’s Central Park. It was the first time the two have been together in public since they exchanged barbs through the media, but both remained calm at a low-key event that served as the formal announcement of the boxers’ Sept. 29 middleweight title fight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N. J.

“I give him respect. He is the No. 1 contender. He has proven to be a great fighter, and I respect him for that,” Taylor said. “I expect him to come forward and try to overpower me. He will not run; he is not a southpaw, he is coming to fight. I know he hits hard, and I am going to be aggressive.

“ I finally got a man that is not a left-hander, and I am excited about that. I’m a fighter, and I fight until the end of the fight. I will not be defeated.”

Officials said 1, 500 tickets were sold before the fight was formally announced, and the entire floor is sold out.

Taylor (27-0-1, 17 knockouts ) and Pavlik (31-0, 28 KOs ) are universally recognized as the two top middleweights in the world.

“This fight reminds us of the 1980 s, when we had all of those great middleweight championship fights,” said Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank and Pavlik’s promoter. “This is a great, competitive fight between the best two middleweights in the world.

“ This fight is what boxing deserves, and this is what boxing will get on Sept. 29.”

Emanuel Steward, who again will be Taylor’s lead trainer, said the team will train in the Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. But even in that remote location, designed to keep Taylor isolated and focused on training camp, Steward said they won’t be able to avoid the prefight buildup that is sure to be significant for one of the most anticipated fights of 2007.

“These are the two middleweights that everyone talks about,” Steward said. “This is the fight that people are talking about. Jermain Taylor has the faster hand speed and better coordination, and Kelly is going to be right there the whole time — right in front of him.

“ I predict a knockout. This fight will not go six rounds.”

After Steward spoke, Pavlik approached the microphone and threw out the first hint of aggression at the news conference.

“Emanuel, I can’t get mad at your prediction. You’re supposed to say that,” Pavlik said. “I will take no chances. There is no playing around in this fight. If he wants to come to fight, that is better for me. This is a great fight for boxing. I predict a win. I predict pain.”

Taylor said he wasn’t wincing at the thought.

“All of the talk motivates me,” Taylor said. “It motivates me when I get up early in the morning to run. That’s all I think about. I am going to train for 12 rounds, and I am going to win this fight. When all is said and done, I am going to win. Then after I whip this boy, we’ll see what happens.”

I just don't see any other way than a Pavlik win. Jermanie has too many controversal wins under his belt. I dont think he will be able to handle a guy who goes through sparring partners like a baby goes through diapers.

Taylor's no slouch. He might not have looked outstanding lately, but he's been in with top quality opposition, consistently, since the first Hopkins fight. I still hope Pavlik beats him, though - I like his attitude. I say this one turns out to be more exciting than the Spinks snoozer.

Oh it won't be a snoozefest, that's for sure. Kelly will make Jermaine fight and I think Taylor will be more than up for it. I think conditioning will be the main factor in this fight, and whoever can still be strong in the late rounds will pull out the victory. I can't wait!! Win or lose, either fighter will come out a different fighter after this war. Great, great fights this year.

Thought id revive this thread cuz after rewatching their most recent fights , I am now convinced that Pavlik will beat Taylor whether it be on points or by stoppage .

I saw hoe Taylor doesnt like getting involved even if its just flicking jabs coming his way . I also saw how Kelly is prepared to walk through walls to get his power shots off . If Mirandas power landing full force doesnt discourage him then I cant see how Taylor will . It will be a good mix of styles and we will see just how good both men are. In a battle of who wants it more though you have gotta back Kelly

Taylor does stand a chance as he is more talented but he is going to have to box at pace for 12 rounds against a big guy throwing big punches and I dont think he is up to it . An old Hopkins and a defensive light middle in Wright gave him all the trouble he could handle . Ouma walked him down and Spinks IMO skolled him . Here he meets a full blown middle and he is gouna have a massive struggle to keep Pvlik off . He may see out 12 rounds but theres only guna be 1 winner . . . . Kelly Pavlik.

CC at ya. Couldn't agree more. Kelly is a animal. He has the same drive as hagler with hearns's fists. Hell he may hit harder than hearns. All I know is I was at the bar and we were talkin about him and how great he is for the community and how much more hope he has given to such a beaten hard as steel city. People around here hold him very high. Black , White whatever. He is a great person and a true force to be reckoned with here. I dint see how Taylor is going to fight this guy. Maybe in the middle of the ring but then I see Jermaine runnin from him allot and that doesn't win points. I really do not see this going to the cards at all. Kelly has only been to the cards three times and that was in short round bouts. I also believe that he could move up to 168 and still be a top contender and still might have a stronger punch and chin than Mikkel Kessler. This kid is a bright young star and will be a dominate force for years to come.

I really think Jermaine might keep away and use the ring for the better part of the fight; try to make Pavlik run himself out and look to win the last rounds decisively. He may try and go to war with Kelly, who knows, but I see him trying to win using the ring and hoping conditioning comes into play down the stretch, coming on strong at Kelly in the last 3 or 4 rounds, if Pavlik doesn't k.o. him 1st. FOTY possibly; hopefully.
