Yes but still overall there are three times as many boxers competing at the weight divisions of welterweight and above than there are bantamweight and below. As for straweights, there are around 6 times more pro welters.

I agree there is still talent in these divisions but it's still easier for a little guy to get a world title shot than a guy at a more competitive weight as evidenced by this 16-7 opponent for Mijares.

By the way in womens boxing I imgaine it probably works the opposite way with much more competition around the bantamweight and featherweight divisions than at the heavier weights.
