I'm all for instant replay. In situations like the FNF incident this past weekend, however, we were only shown one punch from different angles and nothing from earlier in the round. Maybe the cut was started by a headbutt and then worsened by the effective punching of Rodrigez. I'm not sure.
The ESPN crew is good enough to nail down when a problem occurs so I'm not doubting that they hit the right point necessarily, but what we didn't see this time was blood. Usually the blood starts flowing fairly rapidly especially when it comes to cuts that look like that.
I agree with PREME in that there is no reason that instant replay couldn't continue as the fight continues. If the only reason the Collins corner felt safe in stopping the fight was due to the "headbutt" ruling then maybe his corner people don't really have the fighter's best interests at heart in the first place. I'd hate to think they would send him back in there just because the cut is ruled to be due to a punch.
I would also like to expand the instant replay beyond punch/headbutt and knockdowns. How about using it to discredit judges who have a fight so completely different from the other two judges.
