Medical Trials? Whats your take on it?

I was thinking about doing one of those trial things once but here's the main point that kept me away from it:

Look at the ridiculous side effects of the drugs ACCEPTED by the medical field to help treat things (ever see a drug or few that has a "rare" side effect of sudden unexplanable death? I have).

Now this "trial" is to see if it really works. These are drugs that are NOT ACCEPTED by the medical community and require testing. If drugs with sudden death side effects are accepted already, what kind of side effects do you think this drug may have?
