I would route for Joe this time, but I dunno Mikkel Kessler beat Eric Lucas pretty badly, and Eric said he was the hardest opponent he's had except Roy Jones Jr., and Eric Lucas also beat Omar Sheika pretty one sidedly. I wouldn't say that Mikkel hits harder than Lacy by any means, but he gets cleaner shots off and does more damage thusly.

I also think one of Calzaghes few flaws is just as you say, he will thow like 6 or 7 punch combos when, IMO, he would be better off throwing 3 or 4 punch combos and really putting his all into them.. They way he throws combos it seems like each punch loses alot of power, and there is a slight window of oppourtunity for his opponent to land a big shot, like Byron Mitchell did.
I entertained the idea that Calzaghe was throwing too many punches in his combinations in his punches as well after the Lacy fight, and that he would be better off throwing shots more like Mayweather who throws three or four as hard as he can then get out of there, but it wasn't recieved well at the time because everybody thought I was persecuting their beloved Calzaghe.

Maybe he thinks it is better to throw 5-8 rather than 3 with lots of power because it might damage his brittle hands more?

wouldn't fightnews be covering this if it were true?

I would like to see him fight Kessler but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I agree with this, I think he does it on purpose as his hands are so brittle

From what I have seen of Kessler, if the Dane fought the Calzaghe who beat Lacy, you would IMO, get a re-run of Calzaghe/VeitII (competitiveness wise).

I do not think Kessler is the real deal, and in due course, I think, people will use hindsight and realise, that Lacy was still the second best fighter in the division (today). Because A: Calzaghe is that good, and B) The division is that poor

But for the moment Kessler is the #1 contender, and I guess until the fight happens, I only have a theory. Let us hope Calzaghe/Kessler happens... I do not think it will though.

He lacks the quality on his record: Thobela was arguable 9 years and 33lbs past his best, comming off two defeats. Green was 6 years and two bad stoppages past his best. Siaca had already lost to Byron Mitchell, some four years earlier. Mudine is an honest bloke, but getting STOPPED!!! by Sven Ottke, and losing to the above mentioned Siaca, does not bode well. And Lucas is a superb charachter, but he too, has long seen better days.

I think Kessler has superb matchmakers, and they have made the most of what he has got, but I think Kessler is being built up like Gary Mason was, for a big pay day, and a big fall.

Easiest way of looking at the situation with Kessler is that he's got power, he's fun to watch, he can box...but he don't hold a candle to Joe.

If Joe were to bail on 168 Kess would have a massive chance of becoming the divisions figure head...as would have Lacy...but Calzaghe is just leaps above them both.

Probably not.. I think he is a bit slow, and may tire later on, so he couldn't ultimetly beat him, imo. If he can keep up with Calzaghes pace and really work his jab, it could be a really good fight and I think it is certainly the toughest challenge for JOe.. But Kesslers jab and 1-2 is the only thing I could see him landing regularly because like I say, he's not fast.. But the advantage in reach and boxing skill would certainly allow him to be more competitive, at the very least. Really he's just built like Lacy, a bit taller, longer, with a jab.. So I don't see how he wouldn't do better than Jeff did.. But ultimately, I dont think he can do it.

With your statements about Kessler, I guess that you have not watched many of his fights. When you win a EU championship against all those eastern boxers you are far from being hot air like e.g. Lacy was.

By the way, Siaca is extremely underrated. He had two very very close fights against a prime Mitchell and another very close fight against WBA-champ Bruno Girad, who was stripped the title as he refused to meet Siaca in a rematch. Siaca is ranked as no. 6 in SMW by the Ring.

Kessler has had nobody to fight ... He is a great fighter ... just watch his fights... Unlike Lacy he isn't just too strong for his opponents in the end. He actually beats them from begining to end.

I've never seen kessler fight so can't comment on how he'd do. but I appreciate the guys balls to come straight in and challenge calzaghe, when he could so easily have let joe go up to light heavy and clean up super middle himself.

Calzaghe should definitely take this fight, I'd love to see it.

Again...anyone who has not seen Kessler...you should make an effort.

That being said...Calzaghe will figure Kess out fairly easily IWO.

Whether or not he can capitalize on Kessler's short comings is another story.
