Roy is right: the fight is meaningless. With a victory, where does this leave him? Anybody who was interested in fighting him before will still be and anyone who wasn't still won't be. At this point, anyone who fights Roy will be doing so because of his name. Roy could just as easily sit back and wait for those fights to come to him without getting in the ring with Trinidad. Not because they want to break into the elites and not to get onto a p4p list. If Roy loses, then it means nothing for Tito. People will say he had already had two devastating KOs and a 3rd KO will do nothing to enhance Trinidad in anyone's eyes. It will only make people think 'maybe' when they see him.

Jones has put a weight on his shoulders that will be just as easy to shrug off as Tarver promising to KO Hopkins and subsequently looking like a death row inmate looking for an emergency exit. If he does KO Trinidad, great, if he doesn't and gets a decision, fine. But KOing someone who was pretty much humiliated in his last fight, then retired, then was lured out of retirement to fight at a weight higher than he's ever been is indicative of nothing.

To prematurely prognosticate: Jones-Trinidad will be THE most meaningless fight of the year. If Roy wins, it's a tune-up before going down to 168 to posture for Calzaghe. If Tito wins, he'll either make the bum circuit or get his clock cleaned by the first top ten light heavy who comes along.
