TWO WORDS, Alex Garcia! REsearch!
Wow!
Wait a minute what does 'Terra' have to do with Arreola?
I really don't see the resemblance...
Please filll me in.
Garcia was a heavy who rose up threw the networks (usa T.n.f) Fighting alot of c level types and never weres. His biggest opponent leading into 93' was Ossie ocasio, former cruiser champ who was used up.None the less all three ranking organizations had him in the top ten.The W.B.C had him behind only Holyfield and Tony tucker and Garcia #3.There were talks and offers about him fighting Foreman or Holmes for about $500,000 but he and his camp thought he needed more work? An honest assesment but A lesson learned.
In june of 93' and at 32-1 26 kos he took a "tune up" against 10-8 Mike dixon while waiting for a shot.Dixon was another cruiser who jumped to hvy for paydays vs.then prospects like C.sanders,Bruce Seldon,Lennox Lewis,Ray Mercer Etc."The SanFernando Hammer" did what he did best, come forward behind a so/so jab and a Big right hand, plodding ahead looking for the KO.Midway through the 2nd Dixon Spins off the ropes, gets alex Backing up and wings a Left hook that Finds Garcias high temple,KTFO,alex got up woozy and Dixon finished him.Huge Upset at the Time....But was it really?Another case of shiny win/ko records Do not mean everything, and one to many journeymen "stay busy"fights can catch up to you.
Garcia was a strong puncher and a really nice guy but as one deminsional as they came.He was built on alot of vicious KO's and Tv freindly style. He never would get close to the top ten again or come close to making that big payday he missed. He came back the next month to face James Warring(former cruiser champ)and was held to a Draw followed by an embarrasing TKO 2 against jouneyman bullbozer in Garing Lane.Got descent wins over tough guy Joe Hipp and Slickster Buster mathis Jr. as well as rematch win over 10 With dixon.Made a comeback In 05' and got poleaxed by a 4-10 fighter!!lesson learned....you can fight all the bums you want but when you get rankings and offers....TAKE THEM.Tomorrows In this sport are not Guarenteed.
