Yeah healing time of bones is about 6 to 8 weeks. dunno if its the same for hands tho. He could have been fighting within 4 months, altho it'd be dam risky, there'd have to be some damage to the bone still.

I doubt a fighter with Calzaghe history of hand problems would take such a risk just to fight Rick Thornberry. Bottom line is he blamed the hand injury on his performance in order to avoid a rematch with Reid.

Calzaghe took a useless rematch vs Veit so why not rematch Reid ?? he should of definetly took a rematch with Reid that was as controversial as you can get alot of people thought Reid won it and there should of been an automatic rematch.

Exactly, watch the fight before commenting. I've seen it and Joe looked fine to me. Who are these so called fighters that Joe has faced that are 100 x better than Robin Reid was in 1999, and totally dominated?

The part that stood out was you saying you haven't seen the fight, but claim it was an off night. That makes real sense. Anyway trying search for the fight in the download section. I'm pretty sure you'll find it

Broke my hand, a month to heal a month to rest. Fixed. Yes he could have fought within 4 months.

It was badly damaged I believe. His performance level dropped considerably in the later tounds, which is quite unlike him because his stamina is one of his best attributes. As for fighting 4 months later, this was the start of string below par performances from him including the Thornberry and Starie fights, so maybe the injury was still lingering, and maybe afterwards is why he started to pull out fights rather than fight carrying an injury. I'm just speculating.

He had to rematch him or he wuold have been stripped of his title. Believe it or not Veit was number 1 contender at the time.
