all great boxers Sugar Ray Leonard , Pete Whitaker ext they had the mindset to win. utilizing their technical abilities in an offensive manner, while defense played a role it was not the complete focal point . another words they had determination factor, they had desire to win , when the opportunity presented itself they closed the show..
Chris Byrd is a very nice man, you won‘t meet a nicer person however he does not have that spark to capture the imagination of the fight fan.
Byrd uses an open palms stance , its shit. vs. David Tua for example. Byrd left his right arm fully extended most of the time, which is against the rules of boxing, and while I like Jay Nady a great deal, he snuffed on that, Jay should have been warning Byrd for doing that continuously and take a point a way. Chris was trying to guide Tua’s direction with that extended right hand. , a great boxer would not have had to resort to those tactics in a match ,
I felt Tua won the match . However that’s another story.
As for Larry Merchant. I think he is spot on most of the time. He calls it as he see’s fit. Merchant has been involved in boxing for many years and has sound knowledge of the sport, make no mistake. Anyway.
Enjoyed listening to your thoughts on the subject., keep up the good work. - God bless
