Interview recently in the Star tabloid newspaper, (which is pretty reliable for boxing as it is the only Irish newspaper ever to pay attention to the sport,) interveiewd Dunne. In the interview he expressed his desire to fight Martinez again and how it was up to his management to arrange the fight.
He said he felt that Martinez had not damaged his confidence as he was not outboxed or comprehensively beaten over 8-10 rounds. He said Kiko never proved he was the better fighter he just caught him cold.
In my opinion this rematch must now happen to ressurect Dunnes career. Rumours of complacency in the Dunne camp and his vast underestimation of the then Challenger have not helped his poularity one bit and he has taken a bit of a beating, if not in the media, in the whisperings of the public. A win over Martinez would surely set the scene for a rubber match and Dunne had better hope he finds some newweapon which will capacitate him to beat the Spaniard.
Another point which i dislike d about Dunne was his insistence that the fight be held in Ireland, Ok it makes sense financially but where is his integrity. Martinez came to Dunnes back yard and Knocked him out as challenger, why does dunne the challenger feel that the Champ should now travel; to him once agin. Mayb an excuse not to make the fight?
