First off i have to give Pac a lot of credit for coming out and fighting with his usual tremendous energy and quickness. The man deserves his props...he is a tremendous athlete. I have mixed feelings about Marco for this fight. He is my all time favorite fighter...so i of course wanted him to go out on top. I really felt he had the intelligence and skill to pull of the upset. And sure enough...he started well. He didn't move in straight lines...he circled Pac and made him miss plenty of times...and connected well on a few of his own punches. But he simply didn't fight like this was his last fight...a fight where he was supposed to leave his heart out there. Sure...that doesn't mean to go out there and slug it out non stop...that would simply be suicide against Pac. But he was way too tentative. I think there are plenty of reasons for that. He obviously knew he was fighting a faster and stronger fighter...so he was hoping to point it out. But i also think he just didn't have the speed or sharpness. In the Marquez fight...he was razor sharp...had great quickness and pop to his punches. In this fight he didn't have that. Is that because of Manny's speed and pressure and because of Barrera's own physical decline? Probably a bit of both. At the end of the day...Marco didn't have the hand speed and power to beat Manny. But the thing that saddened and angered me....was that towards the end...this great warrior didn't let it all hang out. At some point...a fighter....especially one as smart as Barrera...knows he is losing...and then he must dig deep and show his heart. A great warrior like Barrera...in his last big fight no less...to fight without that fire...is truly disappointing. But hey...it's too easy for us to sit behind our computers and just want our favorite boxers to let it all out all the time and potentially get pummeled and hurt badly. The man has over 70 fights...over many, many years...so many of them wars. So while i am disappointed not only at the result, but the performance...i can only give respect to a fighter who has given so much to the sport.
