Personally, I think McCline is on the juice. McCline is only feather-fisted because he appears afraid to commit to anything in the ring. I mean, look at the guy; he certainly doesn't look weak by any means. Had he opened up more than he did at least half of those losses would have been wins and his KO ratio would be a lot higher.
But Jameel doesn't have that in him. So why was Saturday night so different?
McCline tested clean before the fight. But that does not mean he wasn't juicing all through training camp, shoving crap into every orifice and injecting whatever he could find. Of course we can't know this, but when McCline got in the ring and behaved in an atypical fashion throughout the first half of the fight (I'd never heard McCline grunt before as he threw punches, but there he was). McCline was busier than I'd ever seen him.
I'm not ready to convict McCline of steroid abuse but the alleged purchase combined with a performance that was not his usual gives me pause. That doesn't excuse Sam Peter, though. Were he a more complete fighter many of those punches would have never found him. To his credit, he consistently worked McCline's body until he gassed out in the second half and never stopped working to pull the trigger on him (and if the steroids WERE in play that may explain how McCline was able to recover from punches that in the past have AT LEAST put him on the canvas).
And the Klitschko-Peter argument is lame. So what Sam dropped him 3 times, it has nothing to do with this match save for those who lambasted Peter solely for being dropped and not Klitschko or lambasted Klitschko for being dropped 3 times and not Peter. On any given night an elite can be dropped by a garbage can--we've all seen it, we all know it. I repeat, McCline is NOT feather-fisted, he has only been timid and for SOME strange reason he decided to be very un-McCline like and open up. I'm more concerned that Peter was unable to drop McCline (I don't buy the broken hand excuse, I think there's already been something declaring that was untrue). He had him hurt but couldn't polish him off and that kind of fighting won't clench him the official title.
