Not sure how true it is, but Beristein claims that they had an agreement to rematch Pac for an agreed-upon amount of money (I forget what the $ figure was). Then Pac's team came back and offered them less $$$ than they had originally agreed upon. So Marquez/Beristain rejected the fight on principle because they felt they were being lowballed.

Fighting John for 30K was definitely a dumb move though. Either get more money or fight an easy opponent in the states.
