Look at the difference between Mosley-Vargas 1 or 2 then Mosley-Collazo... you can't punch as fast backing up or against a guy who you need to punch your hardest against every punch. Mosley flicks a lot of punches which give the impression of speed, but the punches he really tries to put power behind aren't rediculously fast.
Thats true when Shane lets his hands go its to look flashy whereas Floyd doesnt waste shots cuz he thinks about each one. This gives the impression that Shane is quicker to the punch . He sets himself up for the power shots but if you watch his finish against Stone , all those those whots were power shots and they were very quickly unleashed .

Also watch Oscar against Mayorga and then against Mayweather he is punching twice as fast vs. Mayweather because 1. he isn't afraid of PBF's power, and 2. he was able to come forward. Other things to watch is how fast Mayweather transists from moving backwards into leaping or jumping in, and then getting back out again. At one point he counters Oscar's left hook with an uppercut and still has enough time to duck the hook.
Yeah you cannot question his reflexes . Oscar was matching him for speed of punch early on . Even beating him imn terms of putting them together but as he tired , Floyd gained the initiative cuz he retained his speed as Oscar slowed . Oscar is known for getting slower as a fight goes on but to me Floyd stays the same

Mayweather has incredible upperbody speed, handspeed, and footspeed. The two things I think people don't realize is Mayweather isn't a fast combination puncher because he thinks before he throws every punch in a combination unless its a one-two.
If Shane met Floyd , PBF would have to try and match Shane for each punch or risk being seen as the slower fighter . If he is just throwing 1 or two punches and Shane is darting in and out with those lightning quick combos, it will appear like Floyd is getting owned .When he opened up vs Oscar for the first time it was in the dying seconds of round 12 where he probably felt he could take risks seconds before the bell . To me as soon as he put em togther he looked sloppy and inaccuarte . Combo punching doesnt come naturally to him . He looks great on the pads in the gym but in the ring its all safety first 1 , 2s and I think Shane has the edge in speed and putting his shots together better .
