    Default Can someone verify this?

I was told that when starting boxing, you are considered a novice fighter, and you have to compete in 10 novice fights, thereafter you are considered an amateur boxer and you can fight in open tournaments like the golden gloves, etc.

This is considering I live in the state of Georgia, United States of America.

yea that is true but I'm not sure if it is completely true. I think it might have to do with the gym, trainer,ur skill level,ect... but I'm not to sure. U Adam and/or one of the other mods would know more about that.

After a fighter passes 10 fights hes considered "open" that means on his 11th fight he could fight a person that has 130 fights. Before 10 fights the fighter has to fight someone close to his age and close the same number of fights so that both fighters are equal. Any skill level can compete in any tournament thats why theres classes like "novice" or "all comers" both are for beginners. Once you get to the tournament you will find out whether or not theres anyone there that meets the criteria to fight you. If not you will be considered "unopposed" and get a medal for participating. If there are people there that meet the criteria then you will find out how many so that you know how many days your fighting, in which ring, and the number fight you are for that day.

If theres only one person there to fight you then you will only fight one fight. Bigger tournaments like a state golden gloves would be around four or five days with a lot of people that qualify to fight you so you may fight 3,4,or even 5 times in that 5 day tournament.

Well currently I am at this one in Powder Springs. Reason is because my mom wont drive me all the way to Atlanta three to four times a week because of the price of gas. But when I get my license in about a month (Yes im finally 16!) I will start attending one of them in Atlanta. My current trainer is going to be taking me to some gyms in Atlanta for some amatuer bouts very soon. He just has to call some of them and some of his old professional trainers to set something up. I am very excited about it.

That's really awesome man! Yeah, gas prices are a killer right now and for most of the summer the news says. You are further than I am right now with your trainer and such, but once I come back at the end of May from overseas I am packing my bags and moving to Atlanta to commit fulltime to boxing, and probably part time to being a teaching assistant at Georgia State University.

keep me updated with your boxing, and I will do the same.

Alright man thats cool. I was wanting to move to Atlanta cause I was counting on going to an art school there and I was thinking about just staying in Atlanta. It would be a lot better than being out here in the small urban areas. So, your wanting to become a teacher (If the boxing thing doesnt work out)?
