    yeh its great news

didn't think any of our reps would even get a medal......well maybe apart from Gavin.

Thought he'd be done for in the semi's against the russian tho.

Wonder how long before he turns pro?

You know its an achievement when you see that Mayweather and De La Hoya couldn't even manage it!

Anybody know how Joe Murray did?

The AIBA has been really good - much less judging/scoring controversy than usual and some good talent there from many non-traditional nations.

Where are the Cubans, did they boycott it?

Frank Warren has been snapping up a lot of the younger fighters out of the amateurs recently, as well as Amir Khan we have Tony Bellew, Jamie Cox et al. Even if they don't make it big for him, he'll at least get some filler for his overstuffed undercompetitive cards.

The AIBA is harder to win than the Olyimpics.

Not really. amatures face far more contraversal decsions and off days than pros dut to the short nature of their fights.

those amatuers with near perfect records are often misleading and often havent been to the olympics or worlds. Gavin has been fighting the best guys in the world for the last fews. there's little surprise he loses about one in four international bouts, you cant peak all the time.

gavin was also named 'most improved boxer' by the england team last year or mayb the year before, is a good sign that he's come on a lot.

Agreed mate, after all the amateurs is the place to do the learning and a lot of the improving before turning professional. It's better to have defeats on the amateur record than the pro one.
