Cotto at Light Welter is no reflection on Cotto at Wlter, the debacle against Torres i feeel was largely down to youth and weight problems. Both issues are now irrelevant at Welter.
However, Rickyhas a number of -i won't call them weapons as they are not offensive-implements in his tool box which i feel would enable him to dismantle the Cotto pressure machine.
1) Miguel is accustomed to being the one chasing, Ricky even when defensive minded is Still planted firmly in front of you, he covers the body well with the elbows and since he has integrated uppercuts into his new scheme, he is very effective on the inside. I have noticed that Miguels best bodywork is done whilst moving in. His rhythm would be upset by an opponent stuck Chest to chest with him. Same tactic as the Tszyu fight i guess.
2) I have also noticed that Miguel hangs back when taking a breath between attacks, this is an excellent idea and theoretically brilliant as althouigh he never moves back he takes nice little rests. (We saw him get caught as a result v Malignaggi and Zab) Ricky takes his breaks up close by hanging on, this in my view would be detrimental for Cotto as Ricky would be pon him, preventing him from resting and also imposing his weight on Cotto while he himself grabbed some time.
3) The best prepared Hatton can throw some wicked combinations (and land) i feel Miguel is a more one punch guy. I feel that Ricky outboxes him and with his chin survives everything. I don't want to go on with this post forever, but i do feel that Ricky has a good foil in Cotto and should he drop the fight to Mayweather he should chase Miguel
But again, it would be a fight with two of my very favourites clashing.
