Cotto has the boxing ability to mimic Roy Jones's style. However, would Cotto spar with Tito so soon after a pretty rough battle with Mosley? I'd chill and heal.
I don't think this works at all, Cotto doesn't have the footwork or even the handspeed that Roy JOnes Jr. still posseses. Its like Wright trying to mimic Calzaghe for Lacy. Also I hope Cotto doesn't beat Trinidad up which is the only reason I can see him taking this job.
Sounds stupid if you ask me. Cotto fights nothing like Roy Jones, and his strengths aren't the same as that of Jones at all. Not to mention he is 30 lbs lighter than Roy Jones..

HELLO? Have we forgotten about last night? Cotto has the ability to mimic Jones' style. Jones, if I recall correctly, lived on the ropes and made his opponents miss, or not connect so solidly, then counterpunch off the ropes. This is what Cotto did last night in rounds 9-12 and also exclusively against Abdullaeve and somewhat against N'dou. Still, Cotto shouldn't waste his time in my opinion.
What Cotto did last night is nothing like Jones they are so far apart you can't even see it on a telescope.
Cotto is cock all like Roy Jones and Cotto put two of his last sparring partners in hospital.
Nether of the above bode well for Tito.
So i think it's doubtfull and is probably just a rumour.

But in sparring what you do is MIMIC the opponent's style or one element of it. That is a well-known fact about sparring. No one expects the sparring partner to be as good as the actual opponent. Plus, the previous posts assume that Roy still has those skills that once defined him, and from what I have seen, Roy isn't what he was. Not even close!!Originally Posted by LEGION

Are you kidding me.. What about saturday night? Sure, Cotto fought well, showed he could box with Mosley. That's a great feat for him, but in regards to preparing Tito for Roy Jones JR, it means nothing. He's suddenly this shapeshifting virtuoso that can just mimic anyone he likes? . He fights completely different from Roy Jones Jr in most ways. Also, there was VERY little action on the ropes for the majority of the fight, and when Mosley did manage to take Cotto to the ropes in the late rounds, Miguel did not use the ropes intentionally at any point that I can remember watching it live, he wouldn't lean and counter like Roy Jones could, and now seems to love doing so much.. And, I'll repeat.. He fights, and has fought for 10+ years at a weight 30 POUNDS under that of Roy, a weight Tito is fighting at for the first time. It doesn't make any sense. If you are moving up 15 lbs in weight after a 2 year layoff, why hire a sparring partner that has recently moved up to a weight 15 lbs less than you last fought at..Originally Posted by p4pking
Roy still has his style, and he still has rediculous handspeed.Originally Posted by Rican
cotto wouldnt be a good sparring partner to prepare for roy jones
Frankly Bad chad would be a perfect partner for tito if chad would agree to do it, Or if was to benefit chad while he trained for a fight
Very similar style imo and i think hes a good good to get useed to a 170 pound wallot, Not to heavy just snappy punches at a higher weight![]()
Immortal Technique
never heard of it and i don't think Cotto is a good mimic of Jones.

I still don't think even Chad Dawson would be right... He doesn't throw from a whole lot of angles, and I also think that he would beat Tito up, not to mention he is too tall to emulate RJJ. I think maybe Jean Pascal or even better Anthony Mundine would be the best choice.Originally Posted by The Magic Man
