Default Should Juan Manuel Marquez Really Be Undefeated ??

Forgetting the DQ loss in his first pro fight, because i don't really consider that a proper loss but i think Marquez should be undefeated i think he beat Freddie Norwood, Chris John, and Manny Pacquiao. It took a long time for Marquez to finally be a household name for years he was severly underrated plus he was ducked by Naseem Hamed. I really and truly believe Marquez is one of the best textbook fighters of all time if you ever wanted to learn boxing then you can't go wrong watching Marquez, he has great counter punching skills great defense plus he is great all rounder he is willing to fight anyone, he is exciting to watch you got to admire the guy even if your not a fan of Marquez you got to admit he is excellent for the sport of boxing.

Well you could make a case for him. I think that too many fans anc critics think that being undefeated at the top level means a lot. I think its more who you fought and beat or faired well against. Id rather go 0-10 in competitive fights againt great fighters than 10-0 against bums. JMM has fought the best and always fairs well against the best, usually winning immpressively. I hardly think a dq loss in his debut means anything at all, just like Hopkins first loss. When Marquez's career is over he should be remembered as one of the greatest fighters of the last 25 years and an atg.

Truthfully IMO Marquez should be 48-5 (35) he got beat by Barrera with the Ref missing the knockdown and the judge scored it wrong in the Pac fight which would have meant Pac would have won.

However I am a big fan, really admire his skills and will be a very interesting rematch between him and Pacman.

No, because he lost that Norwood fight, he didnt have a good outing. I also believe he lost to Barrera, but I havent seen the Chris John fight.

NO jmm is a great fighter but no he shouldn't be undefeated. Ice you said jmm is one of the best textbook boxer in history, but i hope you won't be suprise if pac outboxes him. Yes thats right pac outboxing jmm. Pac has improve immensely, years ago they said his too one demensional but he outbox and outgunned mabman right after jmm nearly lost if not lose to mabman. Jmm couldn't do what pac did to mab and saying its becuase mab is past it and had too many war is also taking away from jmm since he nearly lost to mab just before pac beat him more convincingly then jmm did.

Norwood beat jmm but I think jmm got robbed against chris john. The fist battle with pac was a close fight and if anyone wants to talk technically, then pac should of won it technically if not for the mistake the ref admittedly made.

Also being undefeated means nothing, None of the greatest of great fighters were undefeated. Duckers and Protected fighters are the ones who stay undefeated. Real Great fighters fight even when they are not ready as in primed, they battle the best without waiting to get to their, and when they do reach their prime thats when its clear they are a true great fighter. Even with the lose in their earlier years, they still come back to show how great they are. Being undefeated just meant you never went through the best consistently.

    No.

He lost to Norwood...but he got robbed against Chris John.

    That was indeed HORSE SHIT!!!

Considering coming back from getting dropped & outboxing Pac to a draw...I'm cool with that.

I thought Pacquiao beat Marquez in the first fight. I had Marquez winning 7 of the 12 rounds, but you had to give Pac a 10-6 round in the first for the 3 clean knockdowns.

On points, that made it 113-112 Pac on my card.

well you could definitely make a case for him
i know the John fight was a complete robbery
and i think he won his fight with Pacquiao although i can live with a draw!
but no doubt in my opinion he lost to Norwood.
So in reality i think he should only have one lose.
so IMO his record should probably look something like
51-1 with his only lose to Norwood
or 50-1-1 with one lose to Norwood and a draw with Pacquiao
or 49-2-1 with one lose to Norwood, a draw with Pacquiao, and a DQ
or what about 48-3-1 Hey isn't that what he already has?!?!?!?!?!

The John fight was not a complete robbery even though i think Marquez won it was very close and some of the rounds were hard to score. Definately not the worst decision ive seen and you could make a case for why John won.

That's pretty much the way I saw it, never quite understood the thinking that Marquez just shut him out after the first round.

That and he lost to Norwood, Chris John got a gift and I thought he pretty clearly beat Barrera
