    Non-british?
Good luck, because nobody in the states cared, except for a few die hards
Theres about 20 Americans who watched the thing, there might be one person other then me that taped it,but I have my doubts.
Joe did what he needed to do,look busy for the home crowd,Kessler didnt do what he needed to do,drop Joe
But how would have turned out if it wasnt in Cardiff?
How would it have turned out if Kessler wasnt fighting one handed?
    Just as I thought.

    You got NOTHING.

You'd be better off just admitting you hate Calzaghe than carrying-on embarrassing yourself, son.
Your right,a sports writer in Britain talking about a British Isle fighter obviously knows more then I do
I mean hell whats 30 years in the sport
Hell screw that, whats training professional boxers
Obviously a pen and a pad and a home bias is WAY more credible
Im saying I dont know that he won,and Id like to see a rematch outside of Cardiff, and of course thats an obvious attack on Joe,because dont you know the sun shines out of Joe's precious a$$
Sports writers in Britain? What about ALL the sports writers in AMERICA singing Calzaghe's praises?

You've had 30 years in the sport and train professional boxers yet you DON'T KNOW who won that fight? Fuck me!

If your involvment in boxing qualifies your embarrassing opinion, tell me why WORLD RENOWNED trainers such as Manny Steward thinks - “Joe Calzaghe proved that he is a special fighter.”
Calzaghe clearly won the fight. After the first 4 rounds he pulled away and fought at a pace that Kess couldn't keep up with.

Kess is a great fighter but he could fight Joe 10 times and loss ten times nomatter where the fight was.

Sitting in my house in Boston Massachusetts I saw Calzaghe take Kessler's titles. There was no doubt in my mind.
Yeah just about everyone on Earth seems to agree with that...

Expept for Monkey, of course. He has 30 years experience and trains fighters but DOESN'T KNOW who won and needs a rematch.

Not even gonna get into who won, like pretty much everybody I thought Joe won but besides that according to the ratings people in America really didn't care. Lowest ratings ever for an HBO primetime event. Was in an article on secondsout.

Not sure why? Do casual fans really care that much that there not American? Cause for people like us, it was a huge fight. There's name recognition I guess but how many American fighters really have that big of a name among casual fans.

Not sure if that includes Boxing After Dark or if its just HBO's World Championship Boxing but either way I was surprised it was the lowest ever. They did promote it, not a 24/7 but there was a fair bit of promotion.

Yes,Calzaghe won this fight, but i can`t see why Kessler not deserv a rematch,Kessler can only improve if he fought Calzaghe again,it will be a great fight again
Super Middleweight also acknowledge as Kessler's Kingdom when Calzaghe has retire

It is a little surprising. I wouldn't have expected the numbers to be anything special between two Europeans but Guzman-Soto beat it.. just.

And yet look at the difference in the interest between the two fights even amongst hardcore boxing fans..

Huge difference. Plus they had 2000 punters for Soto-Guzman compared with the 50,000 for Calzaghe-Kessler.

Yeah I don't get it, who the fuck knows who Guzman or Soto is besides people like us. Casual fan sees Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler and thinks who are they but they see Joan Guzman and think hey its Little Tyson, wonder if his balooning up in weight between fights is gonna hurt him against Soto, who by the way looked devastating against Ivan Valle.

And there was much more promotion for the Calzaghe-Kessler fight on HBO.

I mean its two Europeans not in a glamour division but still why would it be the lowest ever. People turn it on, crowd's packed, great atmosphere, the commentators are talking about how its a great, important fight and people don't care....just cause they're Europeans.

Maybe there was something big on that night, I can't remember. Just strikes me as odd.

This is exactly why it's ridiculous for Calzaghe/Warren to turn their nose up at $8M to fight B-Hop. They can say all they want about Calzaghe being a bigger in-person draw in his UK fights, but it is Hopkins who will sell the PPVs.

That brings up a question of will it sell many pay per views at all.

I think maybe Hopkins-Wright did all right, don't know the exact numbers, I mean Hopkins does have a name but I can't imagine "casual" fans enjoying his style these days. I'm a huge fan from a long time ago, still a big fan and even I'm to the point of more respecting what he does than enjoying it. Its interesting to watch to me cause he's so skilled but I mean come on its you know scrappy to say the least.

I'm not sure I would buy it. After paying for both Hopkins-Taylor matches I skipped the last 2 and watched the rebroadcast a week later and was very happy to have done so. I find Hopkins nearly unwatchable these days. If I bought it it would be for Calzaghe, who I think stands a better chance than anyone to beat Hop. And I'm an American! But I'm clearly the exception there. And I probably still won't buy it.

I tell you what else that brings in to question - the $8m offer to Calzaghe.

    Hopkins-Wright did 305,000 PPV buys.

    Hopkins got $3 million..Wright got $2 million.

Hopkins wanted a 60-40 cut to fight Calzaghe. That's $12 million to Calzaghe's $8 million.

Who can make sense of that?

That's all Hopkins and Wright got? A bit surprising, thought they would have got a bit more than that.

I would be surprised if HBO actually wanted this that badly if those are the figures that each would guy get. No real reason to think it would do better than Hopkins-Wright if Americans, for the most part, don't know or care about Calzaghe.

not many people outside the uk do care about calzaghe.................. hatton is the big name fighter from the uk, i've lost count of how many of my friends who aren't boxing fans keep inviting me to there place to watch the fight, they keep saying they hope hatton wins and that hes a good fighter.................... never hear them talk about joe, even tho his fights have been on ITV, there goner pay to watch hatton but dont watch calzaghe even when its free

joes only got himself to blame............... should have had the courage to go over the pond and fight in america a couple of times

ricky hattons a bigger name, earns more money and has tons more respect....... there talking about hatton fighting oscar next even if he loses to MAYWEATHER, joe should just shut up and continue doing what he does................ fight half decent unknown euros like he has the large part of hios carreer

    NOW I HAVE SPOKEN

The only reason Joe wont refight Kessler is Mikkels management team cant read a damned contract well enough to make sure theres a rematch clause
I agree, some of the way. Kessler hand was hurt, but he choose to fight to get a payday. Apart from that Kessler thought he could win anyway, He didn't count on Calzaghe to hit that hard, the workrate was not a surprise. But Kessler was hit more in this fight than in all of his other fights combined

Kessler threw the bombs he had, but Calzaghe took them and gave it right back at my man.

Rematch, well I know that Warren wanted it in the contract, but that Team Palle refused...talk about bad management :P

I would love to see a rematch, but Kessler has to work for it and time is not on his side, I think Calzaghe will retire soon.

Kessler is still in the game, and a defeat against a superb Calzaghe does not ruin my man.

KESSLER SUMMER 2008, I think he will take on A big US name...........
