In general, no. If you want to get inside you want to press him and be close enough that when the opening is there you can take advantage of it. If you shuffle forward as described in the "Footwork" post, and stay just a hair beyond the range of his jab you will force him to constantly move or to stand and exchange punches, which is what you want.
Now, as you press forward and he jabs you slip one and step in with a right to thew body you are now close to him and you didn't eat punches to get there. If he isn't giving enough to his jab for you to work with, catch it in your glove once or twice then lean in and take it high on the top of your head, maybe drop your left a bit so he throws a right. Then counter off of it. That is the essence of the game- make him give you what you want.
