Yea fighting Oscar De La Hoya at 154 after only three fights at 147 is not a risk , and he was 13 pounds lighter on fight night. Yea your spot on
First off all...Oscar was past his prime when he fought Floyd. Secondly...he had been inactive for some time (especially against top level opposition). Secondly...Oscar is not particularly big for 154. I'll still give some credit for the marginal risk Floyd took. But it wasn't a huge risk...Floyd fought someone on the downside of their career. He obviously would not dare step in a ring with a huge fighter/puncher way past his weight class.
No first of all Oscar De La Hoya was the damn champion (Lineal) at 154 and just came off a demolition of Ricardo Mayorga so I doubt very seriously that he was past it. Second off on the night of the fight De La Hoya was 34 and Mayweather was 30 which is not a huge difference in age at all so I don't understand anything your saying. Third off someone on the downside of his career is not the best damn fighter in the division, Oscar was until Floyd moved up. Fourth off you predicted De La Hoya to win the fight, just dig up your own post it's there. If you thought he was passed it you would have not done that, it just so happens Floyd made him look past it.

This is what you wrote in Wacko's Drunkun thread

For me the most intriguing part of this fight will be how Floyd handles 154 pounds. I feel like his power and frame was already being stretched at 147. Oscar has a great chin and is an accurate/strong puncher. Can Floyd keep him off for the entire fight with just his defense and speed...because i certainly don't think he will keep Oscar off with his power. If Oscar comes into this match, and it seems like he will, in great shape...i just feel at some point Floyd will get caught. How he will handle Oscar's power is a big question. Remember...Oscar isn't just some wild punching stiff...the man, even at this stage of his career, is a tremendously skilled fighter. Add to that...Oscar has been involved in these mega fights before...and i think he certainly has more than just a punchers chance. When this fight was first announced...i was thinking Floyd would dance to UD. But i just have this feeling Oscar may surprise many of us.

Well said Manny. I too feel like Floyd is taking a risk. Mayweather is banking on the hope that Oscar doesn't have much left in the tank and that his conditioning and age will be his greatest weakness. And he could be right to think that. BUT...if Oscar shows up sharp, fit, and shows he has one last great fight left in him...Floyd could be in serious danger....his ego having gotten the best of him. I already felt Floyd's frame and power was being stretched at 147...now he is jumping to 154. I guess that's one of the intriguing aspects of this fight

Haha! Fair enough brazilianbomber. You dug up my past. CC for that. But in my defense...my previous posts where littered with "IF'S". If Oscar should up sharp and in great shape, etc. etc. I never unequivocally said Oscar was going to win. I stated if Oscar showed up ready it would be a good fight and a potential upset. I was wrong. But i still do not think that was a prime Oscar nor do i think fighting Oscar at 154 is nearly the same risk as fighting a Pavlik or Tyalor.

I don't hate Floyd at all. I think if you dig up any of my previous post (which you probably already have)...you will see i think he is a great fighter. I just don't think his resume is as outstanding as some people make it out to be. That's my personal opinion...no need to hate me for it because it doesn't agree with your views.

Not sure if you think 160 is where he will or would go but...IF and I say it is a big IF
Floyd moved up to 160 he would only do it for an immediate title shot...and Pavlik would hit Floyd so hard "Pretty Boy"...Or Should I call Him "MONEY" Mayweather would be.....

Broke and Ugly by time they picked him up off the canvas...TOOO much power and size even for Floyd
Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!

haha pavlik would knock the fwock out of floyd if he ever goes up there with the big boys.

floyd needs to stay at 147, he can't just let cotto wear himself down by beating all the othe welterweights. floyd needs to do half the work. It isn't fair for floyd to just let cotto do all the hard work then take the match only when cotto has beaten everyone else. Floyd needs to fight REAL WELTERWEIGHTS from now on!!!!!!! PERIOD!

Floyds made a career out of embarrassing bigger, hard hitting guys.

Thing is, of late, he's started taking a breather and whilst Hatton never caught him cleanly, Floyd would definitely feel another 20 or so pounds beating him around the arms and shoulders.

I think he could hang at 160...they'd have to look long and hard at the opponent though....

I'll take Floyd over Felix Strum and Arthur Abraham.
