I find the whole "Hate Crime" deal pretty fucking stupid....one thing you can do if you're a good District Attourney handling a case with clear racial implications is charge the defendants with PREMEDITAITED murder which is a lot easier to get a death penalty for. Because if you don't like a certain race and then you kill someone of that race it would be easier to prove premeditation. The only places you would have problems would be in small towns which is where there are always issues of favoritism to some extent or another.
But the reasons don't like 'Hate Crime' legislation are:
#1 if anyone is killed it's a bad thing and it doesn't change much if someone was killed due to race or whatever.....it doesn't change the result which is someone is dead
#2 straight white protestant males are not protected under 'Hate Crime' legislation but they are prosecuted at every drop of a hat, d I am sure more than a few deserve it but it's disconcerting to me as a straight white protestant male and now in the back of my mind if I am in any situations that could result in someone being hurt I have to consider that I (even though I may have been defending myself) could be in a huge amount of trouble.
Listen TM, I am not trying to say racism is a good thing or we need to keep that going, FAR FROM IT....but I don't think that political correctness and 'hate crime' legislation are the ways to solve the problem of racism or make it any better.
As for Bernard Hopkins, he could have chosen his words better....I don't expect an appology or anything but I do want people to realize that being white (as with being black or hispanic) comes with more scrutiny in certain areas.
