Agreed! but I think it's mainly because of his personality. Why the hell is everyone bitching about Joe Cortez?? 'Oh he didn't let Hatton fight his fight'..Cortez did the right thing by splitting them up when Hatton tried to tie Floyd up for too long. That's not boxing! We would have had a shit match if Hatton was allowed to hug for too long. Either way i'm happy everybody's acknowledging that he was outclassed on the inside and outside!
One thing I agree on is that the point deduction was debatable..a warning would have been fair but I blame the hostile crowd for that..Remember at school if you did something bad and your friends would be laughing encouragement at you..Your teacher would punish you in front of them to make an example out of you so you didn't do it again and also to send a message to your friends.
Well Cortez was the school teacher, Hatton the naughty boy and the Footba..I mean boxing fans were Ricky's friends encouraging him by letting out roars of approval.
Cortez was under pressure and made an example out of Ricky..fair enough. Wouldn't have mattered anyway.
