Can these guys beat Floyd (in their prime)?

And if Pbf faced Hearns i doubt he look so fast to be honest with and Duran faster then you think and it is not just me that fell SRL would win the majority of times if they fought. SRL had all the advantages and all the flim i have seen on PBF he is not as fast as SRL is at Welter and his footwork is not either. SRL yet again i have to say would beat PBF 20 times out 20 if they fought he was a better fighter then PBf and there acheviements and opponents speak for them selfs and i still pick SRL.

I wouldn't say its as clear cut as your saying 20 out of 20, but i do think Leonard would win because i think Mayweather is much better at Superfeatherweight.

SRL wasn't quicker on his feet than Mayweather, if you watch Baldomir Mayweather compared to Leonard-Hearns or Duran its even, and Mayweather is a little bit quicker(time wise) getting in with his punches. You keep on talking about this reach advantage, but Ray was 2 inches taller an he had a 2 inch reach advantage(THough Mayweather's arms are longer). At their speed this means almost nothing, maybe if Leonard was 6' and he had Hearn's reach it would be different, but thats not the case. Also I see Leonard landing a few jabs early on, but it wouldn't go on for long becuase Mayweather would either bring his left hand up which he has done against fast southpaws or he would slip it which he would most likely do and go to work on the inside, and thats where this fight would take place mostly IMO, I see Mayweather coming forward like he did against Judah, and Leonard trying to box from the outside, but Mayweather would slip his punches and get inside where his sharper technique would make this fight an ATG. Also this would be the first opponent Leonard faced who was as fast as him, but also in better shape than him. I think Hagler was also in better shape than him, but Hagler was a lot slower. I just think you are hyperbolizing Leonard's physical advantages. He obviously hits harder, a little stronger, but in terms of speed, reflexes at WW they are equal and Mayweather's better technically. I am not saying he is the greatest ever, but he is easily up there with any WW and this is 17 pounds above where he is the best ever.

I think many, if not most, of the great WWs could beat Mayweather in their prime at welterweight.

The same cannot be said through at Lightweight or superfeatherweight. Were PBF was very close to unbeatable.

Any of them could, but none of them would for sure. Just my opinion. Everyone floyd ever faces is supposed to be "the guy" and they never are. But that is a good good list of fighters there so who knows, i wouldn't bet against him though.

It sais a lot about PBF that we are comparing him with ATG welterweights. But frankly, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. I would not put him as an ATG welterweight yet. I would sertanly not cosider him the favorite in a prime for prime match up with any of the top 10 WWs of all time.

I think Prime DLH and Prime Mosley would beat him at ww and I don't consider DLH nor Mosley a top 10 WW.

I cannot compare Floyd to the all time great Welterweights as I am not even close to being convinced he is the best current welterweight.

I agree, sure mayweather has great boxing skills but this is SUGAR RAY LEONARD!!!! HELLO PEOPLE...SRL knew how to win close rounds, you could see how he wanted to win and was not scared to brawl when he needed to. Floyd would block many punches but Leonard was used to fighting 15 rounds...no way he would tire and give up, he would mess him up. It would be close though for the first 8 rounds or so, then I see SRL winning...

How would Arguello vs Mayweather be anything like Oscar vs Mayweather ?? first off Mayweather is about x2 times better at Superfeatherweight than he was at Lightmiddleweight. The fight would be little similar to Castillo fight, with Arguello picking his shots well and not wasting any punches, Arguello was very accurate puncher way more accurate than Castillo of course, but it was Castillo's head movement when he bobbed and weaved and come up with the punches that gave Mayweather trouble. Arguello stands straight up unlike Castillo i could see Superfeatherweight version of Mayweather beating Arguello. Mayweather was so fast at Superfeatherweight it was unbelievable, plus he had great punching power at that weight.

Oscar De La Hoya was throwing flurries and missed almost all of them. Mayweather out boxed Oscar De La Hoya. I think thats bad comparison to Mayweather vs Arguello.

A few things:
1) Yes Arguello would stand up straight...so what? He had decent defense, GREAT power, and VERY GOOD boxing skills, and A LOT of patience. I recall seeing some of his fights and ONE punch would F*** up the other guy.
2) Floyd's pussy right hands would be like feathers tickling Arguello's face. Did you see the MASSIVE shots in the Arguello/Olivares or Arguello/Pryor 1 fight? At one point I thought Arguello had knocked off Pryor's head...same with some of Pryor's shots, these too were tough SOBs.

3) In my eyes, criticize me all you want, it was NOT NOT NOT clear that Floyd beat Oscar. A draw would have made sense but no way Floyd won " EASILY ". I had Oscar barely winning...But regardless of who won, it was a close fight. Nobody can argue that, and remember this was against a older Oscar. Oscar De La Hoya or Mosley would beat Floyd if they were in their primes.

4) Trinidad would NOT though, he would lose EASILY to Floyd. His only chance would be to land a lucky left hook against Floyd.

I think Floyd is a very good fighter and he'd be difficult for many fighters but then again many fighters would be very difficult for him to handle.

Most Difficult to beat for Floyd

Ray Robinson - he's THE BEST, great footwork, great speed, excellent power, well rounded fighter he could move he could stalk he could fight going backwards.

Ray Leonard - He's extremely close to THE BEST, he could brawl he could stick and move and he had good power too. Ray had the attitude to really draw Floyd out and have a brawl and I think it would have been a toe to toe brawl between those two.

Tommy Hearns - he's rangy powerful and he controlled distance pretty well....I doubt Floyd would have stood up to the punishment he dished out to Ray Leonard

Roberto Duran - Duran had a horrible attitude and if there was one guy who could mentally take Floyd out of a fight it was this guy. Good chin tough as nails and he was an extremely talented BOXER he could bull into the inside and hit and not get hit he did a marvelous job vs Ray Leonard in Montreal.


I think a fight vs Pryor or Mosley would be too hard to call

This is a good post, Lyle ..... and I have to agree with most of it.

I actually do think that Floyd might yet be a great great fighter, but the guys mentioned above are already known to be great fighters!!

The key point for me, is that Floyd is not a natural welterweight, he has moved up from the lighter weights whereas many of the other guys ended up moving to higher weights than welterweight. Hearns ended up fighting cruiserweight!!

Personally, a prime motivated Ray Robinson was the nearest things I have ever seen to being unbeatable at welter. I think he could have boxed with Floyd, or rumbled with him. IN terms of experience and savvy, the old timers had much more ringcraft formed from many more fights than the guys today.

I think Hearns would have just been too tall and rangy for Floyd. The long right would have kept Floyd on the back foot and I don;t think many people could have outboxed Tommy from distance. That saud, Floys would have had top do a Ray Leonard on him to win, and that's unlikely but not beyond the realms of possibility.

A Ray Leonard fight would have been a classic .... to me, Floyd is almost a reincarnation of Leonard. Very similar styles and any fight would have started out as a chess match. Whover ended up being outboxed would have to go to the trenches and turn it into a fight ..... we know that Leonard could do this when he had to, but Floyd has never had to do it yet.

I think a peak Duran would have outhustled Floyd ..... I think he could have pulled off the Hatton gameplan (but I am not sure that Floyd would have been drawn into the war that Leonard was). Also, don;t forget that Duran was not really a welterweight either !!

The reason i brought it up is because why Castillo gave Mayweather trouble was his head movement, because he would duck and come up with his punches it off set Mayweather's rhythm.

First off Pryor is not a puncher, he may of had high KO ratio but he would wear you down with barrage of punches.

And actually you bringing up Olivares just helps my argument even more because Olivares was out boxing Arguello. Plus Olivares gave Arguello fits with his movement, you forget Mayweather is a puncher at Superfeatherweight, and he could turn your legs to jelly with 1 punch. Speed combined with timing is scary combination speed does actually contribute to your power. Plus Mayweather throws his punches so quick you can't anticipate it and you don't see them coming and like the old saying goes. The worst punches are the ones you don't see coming.

Sorry but i have to criticize you because no way on this earth Oscar De La Hoya got a draw or won the fight. Oscar De La Hoya must of fooled you with his flurries that were missing. Mayweather landed sharper cleaner blows, Mayweather was out landing Oscar De La Hoya in most rounds all you have to do is look at the punch stats they are landslide for Mayweather.
