This sentence on a report from the Gary Lockett fight last night:

"Mandatory challenger to world number one Kelly Pavlik, Lockett will be eyeing a crack at the American in 2008.
A more realistic prospect may be a shot at the vacant belt, especially if Pavlik moves up to challenge Joe Calzaghe."

Now then, I'm not sure how much control Warren keeps over his minions on his website, but surely this sort of speculation wouldn't be thrown out into the public domain without some sort of input or look over from Warren himself.

I know Warren is probably trying to put as many options out there as possible, and is probably a bargaining technique more than anything else, but what would everyone else think about a Pavlik v Calzaghe matchup?

Two unbeaten unified champions of their respective divisions going head to head. Seems like a great prospect, and they're both fighters who come to fight, not defend and gutter brawl, and I think this one would be much better for Calzaghe than Hopkins. However, Hopkins is the big money bout, with the attraction of already having legend status, but credibility wise, I think Pavlik would be better for Calzaghe.
Good match up from Calzaghe's popint of view.He always looks great against agressive fighters.

Also Calzaghe's rock chin and the fact the fight would take place above the MW division will take away Pavliks biggest assit. His power.

From Pavliks point of virew it is a bit to soon.
I disagree on one of your points Porky.. I think Pavlik will still be a powerhouse at super middle..

I think that Calzaghe would have the most confidence in the world in this fight considering he destroyed Jeff Lacy.. Pavlik isn't as slow as Lacy but they do have many similarities.. Both not terrific technically, they just keep coming forward and throw BOMBS.. If Calzaghe destroyed Lacy, i don't think he'd have a problem doing the same to a Pavlik who probably doesn't hit as hard as Lacy did..

Of course, regardless of Calzaghe's chin, Pavlik still has a punchers chance, and he throws shots that could knock anyone out in any weight class.
