Rees is so tiny I honestly reckon Ian Napa could take his light welterweight title away.

That sounds like a really big fight. Hatton v Witter with the winner having the golden carrot of a fight with the might and mystery of Gavin Rees. I think Warren is probably to make a match for Rees, that the WBA will accept and that won't see Rees beaten.Originally Posted by Wasp

Having been checking on boxrec this evening, I noticed that Gavin Rees is penned in to fight andreas Kotelnik on the undercard of the Skelton v Chagaev bout in Germany on 19 January.
Kotelnik is really at the fringes of title challenger status, and is not too bad a match up for Rees in my opinion. With a draw and a defeat against M'baye, and a loss to Junior Witter, Kotelnik's last outing in June was to beat Amir Khan victim Laszlo Komjathi in an 8-round UD.
Rees will need to work his socks off and fight his heart out even to beat Kotelnik, who is much more of a natural at light-welterweight, and a 2000 Olympic Silver medallist.
I'm pretty sure Kotelnik is the mandatory. Also, reports said he was robbed in the recent draw against M'Baye (a Warren fighter in England), wherefore it made sense for him to get another shot.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun

January 19th eh?
I just worked out Rees' title reign will have been 213 days, 3 days longer than Shannon Briggs.
So he can at least be proud of that.![]()

Quit the negative thinking man...if Kotelnik can't even get rid of Komjathi who's fought lower down the rankings, he can't be that good. If Kotelnik fights smart, no doubt he'll win, but Rees will have to rough him up and throw those scrappy doo punches to the Kotelnik gut all night long to have a chance at winning.Originally Posted by Bilbo

I'm negative just a realist. I still think Ian Napa could take him. I'd love to see that fight.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun

If he wins this i persoanlly think he should go after JW,PM or RT just to try and win another title, he wouldnt beat Hatton and he couldnt do much else. It will be a tough fight for him this one though! But with Enzo Calzaghe in his corner i think hes going to become a stronger and better fighter.
now on boxing talk it has Rees offering Hatton a chance at his title, no mention of Kotelnkik.

I would prefer Hatton to retire, then to step down to fight Rees. He doesnt offer anything, I would be annoyed with Hatton for doing it because Witter deserves it a lot more than him.

Hatton would smash Rees - A total mismatch.

I would laugh my ass off if Rees beat him though.Originally Posted by leftylee

HAHA so would I Bilbo, if things like that happen you have to laugh but it could only happen if Hatton got DQ.Originally Posted by Bilbo
