Maybe his legacy is as the best Light Welter of all time tho
Shutting out the division should grant him that if he performs.

His legacy will be shaped by his performances now rather than names (although I think the names have to be good.)
It doesn't have to be. There aren't really the big names at 140 they're up at 147 and if you want to secure your legacy it seems that nowadays you have to fight the names and that means moving up.
He is nowhere near big enough to compete at 147.

i suppose if Juan Diaz moved up that would be a real world class operator on his record, and lets not forget in a couple of years time Amir Kahn could be top 10 p4p

Ok here's the 5 I'd like to see

    1) D-Hop (AKA tune-up) (In USA)
    2) Malignaggi (In USA)
    3) Witter (In UK)
    4) Torres (In UK)
    5) Lamont Peterson (In UK) by the end of 2009 He will be knocking at the elites door at 140

Planning this far ahead is always silly though. Boxers should only be looking at the next fight.
I don't like Lazcano as an option he is getting very old for 140 and won't do anything for Ricky's legacy (especially after Castillo)
Rees is out of the picture apparently.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Hatton wont ever face Witter and I dont think he should, Junior would box rings round him and maybe stop him, the only way I see Ricky fighting Witter is if when Ricky loses next and Witter still has a title that Ricky takes it as a last chance money maker.

Enzo Calzaghe has said he wont let Rees take on Ricky next, Paulie is a good boxer but he has been beaten

What I would like to see is Witter move up and fight Cotto, he would pierce his guard and not throw looping shots over his head like Mosely, Junior would handle welter much better than Ricky, at light welter Ricky has a big strength advantage over everyone but at welter hes just another brawler

Id also like Witters chances against Floyd, the way Ricky fought Floyd suited Mayweather down to the ground, if he had actualy thrown some more shots he could have done better, i dont see Junior getting caught anywhere near as often, you would also have never seen anyone hit Mayweather as often as Junior would

I like Ricky but unless he has a strength advantage, any boxer will beat him, he has limitations

I would much rather see him fight Juan Diaz or Pacquiao than any of these jokers at 140. I know those guys are smaller, but those would be much more interesting and competitive fights, IMO. Witter might give him some trouble, but it would be horrible to watch. Malinaggi is really the only fight I'd care to watch at 140.

He's fought some big names already.
I feel cleaning out a division with some well known if not super names such as Malignaggi and witter (if done in an impressive fashion) would be enough.
If he beats Witter and Paulie he will have done a lot, but after that, if he wants to challenge himself he should probably go after a name like Cotto IMO, not every fight you take should be one where you're expected to win comfortably.

It does seem like he hopes to be undisputed in the LW division over the next year and wait for Juan to move up, but IMO that's not a fight that would secure his legacy since he will have a significant physical advantage over a fighter with a similar style to himself, he'd have more to lose than to gain from a fight like that.

who ever ricky fights next has to be a confidence booster, and then take a top fight i think fighters are secretly wounded mentally after there first defeat and need one fight of re-assurence,i do agree a fight with witter would be very interesting,

    Yeah pretty similar for me.
    1)Juan Lazcano
    2)Junior Witter
    3)Paulie Malignaggi
    4)Gavin Rees
    5)Ricardo Torres
At the end of the day - at least when we are trying to plan 2 years ahead - the biggest UK fight by far for Hatton is not Witter, and most definetely not Rees. It is Amir Khan. That's the truth, even if it seem ludicrous to speculate in a Hatton-Khan meeting right now.

But - and this is my point - fighting Witter, Rees and then fight or not fight Khan, Hatton will go down as a very good fighter in England. Chris Eubank-like perhaps? But he will not be remembered on the world stage as a great, if he ends his areer by fighting 'merely' domestic opponents. So on to the world, Mr Hatton!

(And the likes of Lazcano does not secure his legacy either - Malignaggi and Torres more so though).

How can they plan this far ahead ? im a Ricky fan but what happens if heaven forbid one of these fringe contenders stops Ricky? and for me the witter fight is a pick em very close match up Junior is a lot better than people give him credit for. For Gods sake team Hatton take it one fight at a time and see where it takes you.
    Good luck whatever happens Rick.

Well Witter i do not know much of all i know is that he got blasted by Juhda and that is about it. Then there is Dhop i not sure how good he is still a young fighter. Then there is Pauli who i know i sound like a broken record but if he boxes and moves and jabs he will beat Hatton in a ud and i bet PM.

Juan Lazcano is a possible confidence booster that has been deemed necessary by all of Ricky's confedantes.
At the moment Amir is nothing. Ricky could well be retired by the time that he is even ready to head to world stages at Lightweight.

Seems like a good plan for Ricky. Five and out at age of 31/32.

Easy one to start with - he deserves that to be fair. I did see one quote about about him fighting in Ireland next time out ?

A Witter fight needs to happen. British boxing is on a hight at the moment and - as long as they both keep winning - it would be a massive summer stadium fight. Doubt it could generate the level of interest Benn - Eubank did across the nation but it would be right up there and would certainly generate the ££££ whioch both would find difficult to turn down. Was Benn v Eubank on terrestrial tv ? I really can't remember
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
