I don't want to say how sad it is, just want to say what a great fighter he was. One of the first fights I remember watching was BBC highlights of Hope against Benitez. My dad told me Wilfredo was absolutely top drawer and would box Maurice's head off, but as a ten year old I thought I knew better. After I think 12 rounds, I was pissed off because my dad was right. Even to a ten year old, it was obvious this guy was special. I don't think fighters today have an obligation to help him, but those from his era could do some kind of after-dinner speaking tour to help out maybe. Those with the biggest obligation are the people who lived off his earnings, without giving anything back. And they were probably his best friends at one point.
