I agree that Arum will do everything he can to avoid fighting Williams (please note that I am saying Arum will duck Paul, not Cotto...I don't doubt that Cotto will fight anyone presented to him). But, provided Williams can continue to make 147, it will be the only logical step within a year. The talk has been of Cotto fighting Clottey in March then Margarito in June (provided he beats Clottey of course, which is no gimme by any stretch). After that, unless Cotto can get De La Hoya (who says he won't fight a Puerto Rican) or Mayweather (who the hell knows what he's gonna do), Williams would really be the only logical move for his fall/winter fight. Even if he can get one of those two to fight him, Paul would still loom as the most reasonable opponent for early '09.
