Default Calzaghe Will Be The Most Dangerous Challenge And Threat To Hopkins So Far

I sat back and thought about it, Calzaghe has definetly earned my respect after I was one of his biggest detractors and I can call myself a bonafied fan of the man after how he handled his business with Kessler. Hopkins will never have faced anyone like Calzaghe, who can match him for size and body density along with Joe having an unreal workrate in which he will be windmilling Hopkins all nite, also Hopkins wont be able to manhandle Calzaghe like alot of his other opponents.

In his super fights after Jones Hopkins has always been the bigger man or was fighting someone that was moving out of their natural weight

    Trinidad
    Delahoya
    Wright

Calzaghe will be more than just fine putting on 7 lbs, he will be capable of putting it on Nard... As crafty as Hopkins is I am pretty certain Joe will duff him up pretty bad, unfortunately Joe will get "0" credit for wiping out Hopkins since he is 40+ years old

Totally agree Calzaghe is one of a kind he is a skillful southpaw, with an excellent array of punches. I think based on work rate alone Calzaghe will win this, Hopkins only throws about 15 punches a round i really can't see someone with such a low output beating Calzaghe. But i do see Hopkins using clinches and rough tactics to off set Calzaghe's rhythm and try and frustrate Calzaghe, plus Hopkins has some good technical skills i expect Calzaghe to win but not easily by any means.

Sorry but I just dont see it that way. Yes joe will be one of his biggest challenges but I only attribute that to his age. Coome on hopkins is in no way the fighter he use to be but he still has a good chance to win. That alone is a testament to how good hopkins is. Joe may win a decision but he aint duffing bernard up and you know it. Hop has never been beat up and I dont see joe doin it. You guys seem not to notice but when has joe shared a ring with anyone nearly as skilled and mentally tough as hop. Dont dare say kessler or lacy. Do you think hop is gonna let him throw 100 punches a round? Do you think he is gonna be able to hit hop enough to duff him up? If prime roy who is one of the fastest guys I ever seen couldnt do it what make people think joe will. Joe may win but he is the one who is gonna get roughed up. The real question is is joe mentally strong enough to beat hop? If joe jumps in on hop like he did with lacy and kessler he will get countered alot. It will b a good fight but anyone who thinks joe will have an easy time is a fool. He may win but it will only be by close decision. Old man hop still got enough to make joe look bad.

Here is a fact for you. The biggest scalps on Nards resume were undersized fighters moving up in weight and who were physically smaller

    Wright
    Trinidad
    Delahoya

CC, I agree with a lot of this and the part I bolded is one that I've been trying to make a lot about this fight. Its easy for Joe to throw a hundred punches a round when somebody's standing right in front of him or better yet coming at him but its a whole lot harder to throw a hundred punches a round against a guy circling all night, not many fighters have smarter movement than Hopkins, some guys just run around the ring without any kind of plan, Hopkins circles a guy, moving left, coming back right, not letting a guy get set. Hopkins is a hard guy to trap against the ropes. I seriously don't see Joe throwing a hundred punches a round in this fight.

As far as the title of the thread, I don't disagree much with that but this idea that Hopkins gonna get beat down, nah Bernard's too slick for that.

Usually I like to support my American's but I simply do not like Bernard Hopkins, I hope Joe takes it if they fight, but I doubt it.

I think Calzaghe beats Hopkins but Hopkins keeps coming through big fights which he was suppose to lose.

You call them undersized as a way to knock Hopkins. But both Trinidad and Wright were both favored to win going into the fight with Hopkins. As well as the bigger Tarver.

I have come around on Calzaghe ,I like his attitude and fighting spirit. His work rate is top notch.I dont see a problem with the weight increase and I dont think he will Blink being in the ring with Hopkins regardless of where they fight.Being busy and windmill throwing is great but sometimes less is more.He has to be able to hurt Hopkins, deal with the inside rough and slick tactics and not get syched out,Hopkins is now a conservative sharpshooter.Hopkins has a way of breaking guys mentally at first and then breaking them Physically over late rounds slowly........sometimes too slowly.
Hopkins has been written off more times than a batch of default loans. He is a master tactition and a true ring general.Over the years he has built a love/hate relationship with some fans and media and I think thats what keeps him on top, confident guile & great skill. He really has shown me no major signs of slippage.Joes two fisted attack, moxie and determination are hard to match but I think Hopkins takes this one.once Calzaghe pauses and waits,Hopkins will pick his shots. And if Joe did force an exchange ,I think Hopkins Left hook, straight right,clinch/head,and chin will offset Joe's momentum (and those low hands).Hope this is made.Calzaghe deserves it and Hopkins should go out meeting the best.

Excellent observation. I agree Hopkins takes it.

This is easy work for Joe.

Hopkins isn't hardly active enough in his fights as it is. When he's in there with Calzaghe, he's gonna look like he's pushing 60 years old.

Calzaghe wins AT LEAST 10 out of 12 rounds and forces Hopkins into retirement.
