Default Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya

The average person on the street only really knows bout two current fighters. Oscar and Mike. So if you had to pick just one to identify with, to say you were a fan of, who would it be? Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya. What would you say?

If you're asking me who I can relate more with and who my fighting style would be more like then i would say Oscar De La Hoya. So I guess if i'm watching for inspiration or to 'relate' then I would watch him over Mike as he is my weight and is obviously a fantastic boxer.
Who doesn't like Tyson in his prime though?? He was an absolute beast..If you're talking about 'relating' though, i've never been convicted of rape luckily so I can't relate that much with him

I like Mike Tyson better for various reasons. The boxing public has alway's liked the HW division the most, so with Mike Tyson at one time being the baddest man on the planet I could understand why he was such a big draw, people thought he was invincible, and his reputation stayed with him even after his decline. I could never understand why Oscar De La Hoya was that big of draw to be honest, some of his peers who were just as good as him or better didn't produce half the draw that he did and I can't understand why. Maybe it's his image but he's not a strong character so the only thing I can come up with the public liking his looks, if the fans were 85% women then I could understand, but with the majority of the fans being men I cant understand

When I was a kid, it was Mike all the way, but looking back Oscar provided more entertaining fights.

The strange thing is, that as huge of a star as ODLH is, the average non boxing fan in the UK would not know who he was. None of my family would have a clue who Oscar De La Hoya is, but everybody on the planet knows Tyson, he's up there with Elvis, The Queen of England, Michael Jackson and Madonna in terms of world wide notoriety.

    ......but I prefer Oscar

It's a hard one to pick but in the end I went with Tyson.

You could argue that DLH's quality of oppostion was superior but the fact is Tyson in his day was considered by most as UNBEATABLE.

DLH never really gave that impreasion. Even when he was undefeated he was criticized for fighting an old Chavez, for getting a gift decision against Whitaker and Quartey. He didn't even look that good agains Oba Carr. Please note this is all not my opinion just the general impreasion from the media at the time.

To answer brazilianbomber. I think in the end Oscar was loved by so many by a combination of great promotion and the fact that he is one of the very few fighters that have been willing to fight anybody. Pretty much anybody who is somebody from 147 to 160 has been in the rign with Oscar.

CC and good post Rookie, but Oscar was a big draw way before he got to 147, and that was way before he got the reputation of being one of the fighters to fight everybody. His popularity started in 92 when he was in the olympics

    With out a doubt: Tyson!

I like ferocious tortured souls who denounce society.

I don't like superficial "golden" boys who put on whatever face will suit them best in any situation.

Then again i liked the box and move style oscar showed earlier on, abit like Leonard used to! i voted tyson though, hes my favourite heavyweight of all time.

I can't stand Oscar's fakeness and although I respect him as a fighter,he is also too much of an attention whore for me and gets in the way of these young guns fighting. Mike in his prime was a fricking animal.Anything he's done since then,I've tried to ignore. I prefer Mike.

thats kinda true when i come to think of it. Before the Hatton fight was made most of my mates for example who dont follow boxing didnt even know who PBF was. It's true aswell that EVERYONE knows who Mike Tyson is....not sure whether it was just cos he made such a big impact on the HW division or becuase of the coverage of what happened outside of the ring.
