I do not see why Hatton should not have a tune up.

Once he gets that out of the way then he should be looking to clean up the division. i.e. Get the belts and beat the best challengers.

For me a Torres fight would not classify as a tune up so would not mind seeing this. Gets him the WBO belt. Then he and Paulie can have a big unification clash at MSG in Nov for WBO/ IBF. He should then fight Witter in the UK as his first fight of 2009.

I know that Hatton said he does not want to give Witter any money but on the other hand Hatton has also said he is in it for the Glory. He did not have to go to the US and take on the best PBP. If he is in it for the glory then he should fight Witter soon. I will not say Hatton is ducking him until Hatton quits without fighting him.
Tip of the month: Protect yourselves at all times. You never know when the scheming bitch will come back for more.

One thing that I'm curious about...why would everyone want to see Hatton face someone as powerful as Torres after he just got KTFO by featherfisted Floyd?

I mean...that just don't make sense to me.

More names thrown into the pot now

Gavin Rees deal is in the works according to this article in the Daily Mail:

Feather fisted Floyd ?? i totally disagree with that, Mayweather has very underrated power and i said that before Hatton fight. That if Hatton comes wading in with no defense he will got KO which he did. Mayweather was a very good puncher at Super Featherweight, Lightweight, His power may not be what it was at the lighter weights. But to call him feather fisted is way off the mark. He was able to even rock Oscar De La Hoya at Light Middleweight who was almost 1 stone heavier if i remember right ?? you have to have power to do all that.

Absolutely... And the main thing, is that Mayweather is just so accurate, he was landing many clean punches on Hatton every round. His being KO'ed had almost nothing to do with Mayweathers power. Sure Torres can punch but Hatton doesn't have a bad chin, his problem isn't that he can't take a punch, that's for sure. I don't see why Torres is a bad choice of opponent... Given Ricky's age, basically if he can't beat Torres he's not going to be a top fighter no matter what he does. I can see him needing a confidence booster if he is really that shaken up after being KO'ed.. But at the same time I don't think a no hoper makes any sense for his career.. Torres is a good choice of opponent imo, I think the Cotto fight likely made him look much more dangerous then he really is, now he's a known entity, you just have to watch for the short hooks. Hatton may have trouble with that though since he is an infighter.. I basically expect a very good fight which Hatton will come on to win late, if this comes through.

Gavin Rees will be the safest way back to get a title. You could class that fight as a warm up cause there is no way Rees will live with Hatton. Then go fight PM in New York.

Torres would be his best bet. Although I think Witter deserves it a little bit more. Witter should go after PM and Hatton after Torres and Rees. Undisputed status would be enough to tempt Hatton. Diaz and Pac move up and both fight him. This would be good enough for me.

I completely missed this! Absolutley delighted, Its nice and soon so he wont be out of condition in so much that It could lose him the fight, three good potential opponents

I'd love to see him fight Torres although Torres just defended so I'm unsure what part of his year he's in (Does he usually take a lot of down time?)

Holt and Hopkins are attractive confidence boosters although Holt is perhaps the better option as the memory of Hopkins being awarded a gift against Forbes still fresh in the memory.

    Delighted!

Hatton's a tough brawler who likes to come forward. But he was rocked by Luis Collazo, who's not exactly a huge puncher... and got KO'd by Floyd. If he were to get caught by a bomb from Torres, it might be "nighty-night Ricky".

The problem in the Floyd fight was not Floyds power, but his speed and accuracy. Torres is way more hittable than Floyd and I think hatton could hurt him easier than Floyd. This should turn out like the Cotto Torres fight a brawl where both hit the canvas. Torres was down twice in the Holt fight, but yeah any fight at Hatton level is gonna come with risk, not taking risks is what people will bring up if he fights Rees then Malignaggi, two light punching boxers. Theres risks there too he could get outboxed by PM, Rees I know very little about....

Rees is the weakest champ at 140, he is a decent fighter but he won the title off an uninterested Souleymane M'baye. When any of the elite Jr Welterweight's fight him he will lose big time.

Ree's should be a lightweight. At Lightweight Kahn and Thaxton are actually better. He's a poor champ.

Have Holt and Hopkins fight each other on the undercard.

And Hatton fight Witter in the main event.

    Problem solved.

Don't know where Torres goes though. But I think Holt would beat him in a rematch.

Yea but Collazo and Floyd are both skilled boxers, who on those nights took Ricky apart gradually, and only hurt him late when he was heavily fatigued. I don't think he has a bad chin at all, least when he's fresh he can take punishment. Torres would fight in a manner that Hatton would fair better against imo, he's going to be there early, and he'll stay close trying to land big hooks on Hatton all night. Ricky is supposed to have the edge in that sort of fight, no? I don't imagine anyone would give Torres a good chance before Hatton fought Floyd.. I guess we'll see if it really took a lot out of him as people seem to think.

Well it looks like Holt is out of the running, he's gonna fight Ben Tackie on a Versus card early Feb. That leaves the door wide open for either Torres or Rees, with Hopkins fighting Witter.
