Ive always used them to add to conditioning in the sports that i have participated in, and have found that theyve helped more with confidence in my strength and explosiveness, as ive always lifted on and off im not sure how much they have actually helped and it could just be a mental thing, im intrigued by what you have to say on the subject though scrap.

As all things we came across this by testing for something else, by trying to comform to British Standard Rules on eqiupment for sport and comply with rulings.

Pick a method. Mine has been circuit training concentrating on a target rep speed particular to each exercise, with very brief rest times depending on the exercise. With this approach I have been able to improve my strength, endurance, and I've also found that my flexibility has improved, although I don't practice any form of stretching. I like this approach because it doesn't compromise my speed, or body weight, and it can improve the efficiency of anyone's energy system.

I've gone with moderate rest periods like about 1.5 mins. Used to do circuits for time efficiency but decided maybe extra time to allow recovery would get better results.

I still do mostly just bodyweight stuff and light dumbell exercises to target smaller weaker muscles which need building the most. Even as a chick it's too easy for me to get muscle imbalances working the larger muscles groups without the smaller ones!

I mostly work my back since that's my weak point, get enough leg work in plyometrics and squats and lunges and hill running I think. At least my legs aren't small compared to the rest of me anyway! I do a separate routine just with bodyweight exercises for my core aswell but not sure I've found the best routine for that yet.

I find that a period of weight training mid way through the amateur season is a huge crutch.

I find if I neglect weight training my arms become a bit "undisciplined" in combination. Where as if I do some weights they seem to move as fast but in a better textbook form.

I find If I work my arms that it has no effect on flexability or speed as they come from the movement of the core and hips, legs etc.

I no longer do weight on my legs, I merely run farther than before.

I perform some weight training that is directed at my abdomen with pulleys etc and I find it beneficial for power and sometimes balance.

I used to do a lot of weights before boxing, then as I started boxing I gradually phased the weights out of my schedule. I became totally against them at one point after blaming them for some injuries I suffered, and neglected them altogether.

Now I do bodyweight excercises, and some dumbell excercies for my back and shoulders to counterbalance the pressups I do, but I make sure to incorporate a lot of stretching nowadays, which the lack of was probably the main reason for F****** up my hamstring. Like donny I don't do more than bodyweight excercises on the legs.

As for my stance on them, I'm not against them per se, I'm sure if done correctly without overdoing it and with complementary stretching it might not be harnful. It's just that there are only a finite number of hours a week that I train (as with anybody) and, while I think being stronger is certainly beneficial for a boxer, I find personally that other aspects of the training (shadowboxing, sparring, stamina work) are just so much more important.

Looking forward for your findings Scrap.

What you might find interesting, Google.., Accommodating Resistance. Plus Miami Barbell Systems some good stuff on Rubber and chains for resistance work, which helps Biomechanics work as the should without to much stress on joints and correct preperation for muscle fibres working against force. Weve taken it a step further, and got the patent .

i am constantly changing my weight routine, now i am concentrating only on power and explosiveness. this has shortened my workout and oddly made me stronger quicker...some of it is simple re-education of my nerves and learning how to generate that strength but i feel it helps a lot.p.s. trust me on this str e t ch or you will regret it..

Have you managed to find away to manipulate the direction of of a gravitational field? so that the force is in direct opposition to the movement of the athlete. Quite a feat.

CC Scrap - some interesting reading when googling accomodating resistance. Now you have the patent not much longer till it's out right? Or more paperwork etc?

Sharla had the Patent a few years, but nobody qiute understood the theory. Then it got tested at the Uni and the penny dropped it was one of lifes moments when three Proffessors looked at each other gobsmacked and said, do you realise what this means. Me replying Ive been trying to tell you the last three years. Eventually there will be four different machines, exciting times ahead. Working the muscular foundation without impact and levers joints, naturally not constant, touch and feel as Ive said before are under estimated in Biomechanics.

Ahh so you confused em and they've held it up by taking too long to get the idea. Poor guys probably didn't like being taught something by a non-academic! Better late than never I suppose! Must have been frustrating for a while though!
