Hopkins is somewhat of a dirty fighter. So the chance of him getting DQ'ed and Calzaghe winning is there. My opinion on the names listed is
Jones- I see Calzaghe being competitive with Jones. But Jones by UD
Pavlik/Taylor- I would make Joe the favored over both
Dawson- I see Chad being to big, to strong and to young for Joe
Johnson- No way this happens. Joe already ducked him 3 times. He would make it 4 if the opportunity presented itself
I agree, well mostly anyway :-)Originally Posted by Violent Demise
I can see Calzaghe beating Hopkins, because Hopkins has the bad habit of waiting and waiting and waiting... Hopkins will not be able to maintain Calzaghe's pace and is simply too slow of a starter these days.
I cannot see Calzaghe beating Jones. Even Jones at this stage of his career, would tame Calzaghe IMO. His speed will neutralize Calzaghe's punch output and Joe will not hit hard enough for Jones to go into a shell. Joe will be the one that slows his output for fear of getting nailed with counter punches. Jones wins this.
I think he should rematch Kessler in Denmark. I believe Mikkel deserves a rematch.
Why ?? both men were at there best and Kessler was clearly beaten by at least 4 or 3 rounds. I don't really see why Calzaghe has to fight Kessler again.Originally Posted by eagle
Joe won't have to worry about this. Cus he ain't gettin past old B-hop.![]()
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
It was in front of a pro Calzaghe crowd, in Joe's hometown. 3 or 4 rounds isnt a huge beating by any means.Originally Posted by Ice Cold Boxing
Also Kessler had the more recognised belts before the fight.
I think beating a prime fighter in Kessler in his hometown would do more for Joes legacy than continuing to fight 40 something guys.
agreed. Hopkins will outclass him and take him to school.Originally Posted by Hulk

3 or 4 rounds is being generous to Kessler some people even had it 9-3 which Wacko did. I see no point with Calzaghe fighting Kessler in Denmark, not only would there be a chance of Calzaghe getting robbed of a decision. But he will hardly get any credit for beating the same fighter he already easily beat. At least if fights Jones in USA and wins he will get a lot more exposure and more credit for the win.Originally Posted by eagle
Calzaghe's work rate alone won't allow him to get taken to school by Hopkins. Calzaghe is a very skilled fighter with a good jab and he punches from all angles. Calzaghe's best assets like his Jab, Workrate, Angles, will badly trouble Hopkins. Whoever wins it won't be one sided at all and i would lay down £1000 on it as well if i had that type of money to bet with.Originally Posted by BigLuke
I voted for Glen Johnson.
Two reasons...#1 : After Joe has a really ruff & tuff rumble on the way to defeating Hopkins...he'll need a bit of a breather. While ole' Glengoffe is no walk in the park...he's a good name & one that's been in line for awhile to get a shot at Calzaghe. Johnson would be a good show & he'd be a great set up & motivational test for Roy Jones jr.
Reason #2 : Jones got KTFOBT by Johnson...this would be a great promotional tool to bring Jones to the table provided that Joe total kicks the shit outta him...which I believe that he would.
So...RJJ would have been my first vote.

Hopkins then Johnson would be 2 tough fights to take in a row. Even tho i think Joe C should probably win both those fights would have to take something away from him cos BHOP and Johnson would rough him up big time.Originally Posted by wacko3205
Joe don't want none of Glen. He already punked out against him 3 timesOriginally Posted by wacko3205
Johnson does well battering fighters that just stand there in front of him waiting to be hit. Joe's a lot more awkward & mobile than anyone that Johnson has faced in the last 3 or 4 years of his career. That makes a huge difference.Originally Posted by eagle
While Johnson is an intimidating fighter & has looked impressive against his last few opponets...you have to look at the opponents & their state of being at the time.
Everyone went "coo-coo for Co-Co Puffs" over his TKO of Montell Griffin...I did not. Griffin was pretty much past it. Admittedly...I think that he looked great against George Jones & Richard Hall...but again...both of whom were pretty much past it.
As far as him being ruff on Joe...I just don't think that Joe's gonna fight a stand & trade game with him. Look at the Clinton Woods match. Many think that he was robbed against Woods...in the end...Clinton handled him as well as Johnson did Tarver on his upside in their first bout.
I won't even boost him up by mentioning Moore or Pineda getting blasted out.
That being said...Johnson's got enough to trouble & possibley spark out Bad Chad Dawson, who IWHO, still aint cut out for the big leagues mentally.
A good barometer for what I mean there is the Adamek bout. While Chad did pretty well to beat him...he fought like an idiot in doing so. Tomasz put it on him several times...he even blasted him to the mat once or twice.
I like Dawson, always have...I just think that he needs to work on pacing himself & his whole mental setting...he's a bit wreckless at times.
I would love to see Johnson bring Dawson back down to earth...but I don't want to see the kid humiliated. Johnson could do both...humble & or humiliate.

Personally, if Joe does beat Bhop then I'd rather he bypassed Jones and went for the Taylor-Pavlik winner. That would do more for his legacy than beating a 70% Roy imo. Jones I can't take as a serious threat now until he beats a prime fighter. Then he might be worth a shot.
I think there'll be a lot of money in a Calzaghe-Pavlik match if they let it build a little. Joe should forget about his next fight being his last and go for a belt at 175 (probably Woods). In the meantime Pavlik might have beaten JT again and another (preferably a decent name such as Abraham or even Winky). He'll be well established at that point. It'd be a similar scenario to the Kessler fight really and I think it'll do a lot more for Joe than a Jones fight.
