Kirkland:
Witter is the WBC champ, the recognised number one contender. And he lives a hundred miles away from Hatton.
Hatton fought Floyd for the huge payday. Losing at a higher weight to the p4p number one is no disgrace but losing at the weight you're supposed to be world number one at to a bloke up the road makes your career look like a bit of a fraud.
In boxing, anything is possible, who knows perhaps Witter could pull the upset, but is it likely?
Your assumptiuon that Witter would win is an opinion and you're entitled to it, but it is by no means the common consensus or a commonly held belief in boxing.
If Hatton does fight Witter what prevents the press (particularily the American press) from labeling it a gimme fight against a domestic opponent? Will that add credit to his legacy?
Gamo:
He was fighting Tszyu as HUGE underdog, so he had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Against Mayweather,he was fighting the best fighter in the world,no shame in losing there. Fighting Witter is different. It's a fight he won't be entering as an underdog. It's a fight he won't be entering with nothing to lose. I think that's a legitimate reasons why he does not want to fight Witter.
I'm not defending who Witter has fought at all but I don't understand Hatton's logic in not fighting him at some point.
So you feel that it's a fight Ricky would be a heavy favourite entering, he would be confident himself and thats why he's hesitant to fight him?
As I've said before I feel Hatton will box him at some point, but I do not feeel it will be immediate.
The fight is in demand yes, but by who? The British public primarily. There is little demand for this fight outside of the UK and it is a distinct possability the fight will be frowned upon by the American and global public who have alternative fights to offer him.
Sanj16:
to be fair it was very early in Witter's career and he did get the fight last minute.
At that time Judah was talked about as being a top level fighter who was lining up a fight with Kosta. He was also
touted as the man who would give PBF his toughest test. These are the 2 fighters that Hatton has most aclaim for facing
and he lost comprehensively to one. These were both when he was at the peak of his powers and had a perfect training camp.
Who knows what Witter may have managed if he had a bit more experience and confidence when he did fight Zab.
I wouldn't mind seeing Witter avenge that loss though
He got the fight two weeks before. That is sudden for any fighter of any calibre.
However, fans cannot have butter on both sides of the bread, they cannot praise their man for being always ready and willing tio fight anyone and then turn around and use the same as an excuse.
"He's always ready to fight and he's not afraid, but against Zab he wasn't ready and he was unprepared."
Against PBF, Hatton, was outboxed, outthought and outfought in a reasonably brave effort. But against Zab, Witter was intimidated out of performing, which do you find more demeaning?
