Witter is never going to get himself a "name" in the states. Hatton isn't a name in the states. Not even close. If anyone does know him, it's just as a fighter who was KO'ed by Mayweather(if they even know him) and made to look better than he was in the 24/7 series. I had a bunch on friends over to watch that fight, basically only one of them being a fellow boxing fan who follows the sport. Everyone else was telling me the same thing. "Hatton isn't that good at all, I thought he was going to be all over MAyweather's body, he can't land anything, he's just trying to wrestle, etc." Now most of them had no appreciation for what Mayweather was doing in there either, they just don't know what to look for in a technical matchup. But, the point is that there is virtually NO interest in the States to see Hatton fight. All the analysis on the TV networks after the fight echoed similar sentiment.. "I really was lead to believe Ricky Hatton was better than he was in there, Floyd was in control the whole fight", I remember one announcer saying. End of discussion. You in the UK may not like it, but Hatton is only a massive draw within his own country(as with most fighters, sure). However, a fight between he and Witter would still do very well over there, and it isn't going to get much bigger with time. I do agree a good win by Witter on HBO should come before the matchup... But don't get it twisted into thinking that him beating Dhop will draw an audience from the US.. It wouldn't. Dhop isn't known at all either.
