I seriously don't understand where this money is going to come from. Obviously the gate's not going to bring in any significant amount of $24M, and I can't imagine HBO is willing to pay much for this given the poor viewership Calzaghe's last PPV fight got. So if there's $0 in PPV revenue, honestly, where the hell are they getting $24M from (in addition to all the money they'll need to spend on overhead, promotion, etc.)? This makes absolutely no sense to me.
I'm not so sure... Hopkins is certainly fairly well known these days, he's one of the only names most of my friends will ever bring up when talking about boxers, it seems most young guys at least know the name, and I'm sure many people will want to see him fight for free... I think they figure it will be bound to do well since it's on regular TV, I'm sure it will get excellent ratings, especially if they do a good job promoting it. Do most people in the UK get HBO?? Or will they just carry it on another network live overseas?? Either way, long as it's on TV on both sides of the pond I can't imagine it not doing well. What surprises me more than anything is that Calzaghe is making as much as Hop..
